Three Ways to Use PanPastels on Handmade Cards
We hope the Product Spotlight videos have inspired you to craft with our PanPastels. We definitely love creating with this smooth coloring medium. Here are few more options to get your creative juices stirring.
Before we get started exploring projects a bit on PanPastels โฆ
Why use PanPastel versus another coloring tool if they look similar? While they do look similar from a photo, there is a difference with a closer in person look. Depending on the technique it can be easier to get a smoother color with the PanPastel versus another medium. Contrary to an ink pad to paper, you wonโt get streak marks with your PanPastels. It can also easier to get into those smaller detailed areas of your stencil with a PanPastel and Journey Sofft Tool. And PanPastels gives you, as a crafter, the opportunity to play with something new and challenge your crafting.
Let’s look at three ways to use PanPastels on handmade cards:
Add PanPastel Color to Die Cut Shapes
Use your PanPastels to give color to your stamped or die-cut images. These Blooming Details Die cuts are actually on Whip Cream Cardstock. All that color โ thatโs PanPastel. With smooth brush strokes you can give blooms different shades of color for a life-like effect.

Add PanPastel Color With Stencils
As we mentioned, PanPastels can make coloring in a stencil design easy. The PanPastel pigments beautifully blend to give you smooth transitions between colors. Plus, the Journey Sofft Tools include small sponges to get into those small grooves.

Color your entire background panel with PanPastels! With the Journey Sofft Tools you can gradually darken or lighten your PanPastel color tones. The lighter colors in the middle help the eye make sure your stamped sentiment stands out, while your darker colors perfectly frame your image.

I love pan pastels. I wondered how to “set” them. If you want to send the card in the mail. Please advise. I don’t thin FSJ has a setting medium? Thanks!

Although most projects do not need to be set, Richard has been known to use inexpensive aerosol hairspray to set.
