Fa La La Cards with Elena
Christmas Time is almost here and I am still busy with creating Christmas cards – my favorite season for cardmaking. It’ s Elena here today and I am back to share more ideas for your Christmas cards.
I like using blue and white colors for my Winter/Christmas cards. When I was a child the New Year Preparations and Christmas Eve ( I am Orthodox and we celebrate Christmas on January the 7th) were always such a magic for me, and I don’t know why, but the deep blue was the color of those expectations. That is why I decided to use these colors for my cards.
I started with die cutting the marching kids using Fa La La die by Sharyn Sowell from the white cardstock. Later I foam mounted them for a dimensional look and placed them on the oval frame that I cut with the Label 33 dies.
I wanted my cards to look more snowy, so I also cut out the frames using Label 33 Decorative Elements dies, that match the Labels set I used earlier. I used white glittered cardstock, it’s quite thick but going through my Platinum Machine several times made it quite easy to die cut everything. However for my larger card I used the larger frame and the paper to make the Decorative Frame.
My daughter watched my die cutting process and asked why I used only white cardstock for the marching kids, and why not to try to use the paper collection that I used for my card base. Well, I though it was a good idea and and gave it a try and die cut kids from the patterned paper and I really love how it looks.
To make the die cut more visible, I foam mounted it too and topped it on a smaller oval frame that I made using the silver glittered cardstock. It is darker than the die cut and works as a background for it. The cards look different, though I have used almost the same papers and the same dies to create them.
I also used a trick I wanted to share with you. Since the frames and decorative Elements are all from Label 33 series, they match each other perfectly, but actually I wanted to show the beautiful loops of the decorative frame, and used the top frame almost of the same size, so I seized the frame in the center using my scissors, just a little bit so that the other frame is seen too.
