Luxe Gifts with Easy to Make Pom Pom Embellishment
The gift giving isn’t over yet!! With the glitz and glam of a New Years Eve celebration on the horizon, I want to show you New Year’s gift embellishments fitting for the occasion. Hi, I’m Becca Feeken with Amazing Paper Grace and today I want to show you how to make paper pom poms to adorn your New Year’s Eve gifts.
If you give a lot of gifts, you will no doubt want some freedom from purchasing pricey store bought embellishments. Pom Poms are simple to make and you pick the size!
I absolutely love hand made embellishments! Why? Because it lets me throw my frugal nature right out the door. When I make my own bows and pom poms, I can make them as large as I want and I can make as many as I want – after all, it’s only paper. I got a little carried away with the Loopy Roll Flowers die when I discovered they would make at least three basic sizes of pom poms.
Small – below I’ve taken three small pom poms and combined them on a box top for a luxe look. These are about 1-1/2″ in diameter.
Medium – below I put together two good sized pom poms and they cover quite a bit of real estate on my box. They are about 2-1/2″ in diameter
Large – Lastly, I created a large pom pom by folding my paper. This can be used for larger gifts and commands a good bit of space. This one measures about 5″ in diameter.
How to Make and Assemble Pom Poms
You will need S4-049 Loopy Roll Flowers Die along with double sided tape and a paper straw. Choose a wrapping paper – the flimsier, the better.
Here are the steps you go through with each die cut.
(a) Firstly, cut with colored side face down.
(b) On wrong side (uncolored side) add double sided tape along one edge.
(c) Fold in half to glue wrong sides together.
(d) Add double sided tape along the bottom edge of folded die cut.
Lay paper straw on exposed adhesive and roll until end is reached. Add additional pieces until pom pom has desired fullness and size.
Pom Pom Sizing:
The small pom poms, use smaller loopy die.
For medium pom poms, use large loopy die.
For largest pom poms, use large loopy die however fold wrapping paper and seat fold within vertical cut lines.
Tip: For the largest pom pom you can distribute how the individual spikes fall by twirling your paper straw between the palms of both of your hands rubbing in opposite directions. Watch out, this part is fun!
