Video Friday | Watercoloured Die Cut Wreath with Debby
Hello, and thank you for joining me. My name is Debby Hughes, and you can find me blogging at Lime Doodle Design. I have been paper crafting for a while now, since 2006. Spellbinders dies were some of the first I bought, and so I’m delighted to be sharing this video tutorial with you today. My project concentrates on creating a classic wreath with lots of layers and dimension. I love to watercolour, and so I painted panels of watercolour to use with my die cuts. However, this wreath would look lovely cut from patterned paper or cardstock too.
In the video, I show a quick unboxing of the Platinum 6 Die Cutting Machine, and I was delighted at how easy it was to set up and be ready to create with. I started preparing for the card by watercolouring two panels of watercolour card, one green and one pink/peach tones. I added a few layers of watercolour, paint splatters and white gouache on each panel to get lots of colour variation and interest. On the pink/peach panel, I also splattered a solution of Perfect Pearls to add shimmer to the flowers. With my preparation now complete I moved on to die cutting.
I love a classic wreath, and one of my favourite ways to use a wreath die is to cut it from a light coloured card, to give the impression of a wreath without it dominating and so letting the flowers and leaves be the centre of attention. I die cut the Wreath die, and also the largest of the A2 Matting Basics B die from more of the watercolour card. When using watercolour card on a project, I like to use it for the other layers too so that everything matches nicely. The watercolour card, being thick is also nice and sturdy. I continued to die cut, using the Little Plants dies to cut leaves from the green watercolour panel and also Wreath Elements and Flower Power dies to cut flowers from the pink watercolour panel. I layered the two flowers I’d cut using the Flower Power dies to give extra dimension. For the two flowers cut with the Wreath Elements dies I decided to add extra detail and dimension by running them back through the Platinum 6 with the embossing mat and plate.
With the die cutting complete, I constructed the card by adding foam adhesive to the back of the flowers and leaves and attaching them to the wreath. With these elements now on the wreath, I had more area in which to attach foam adhesive to the back without it being visible. I then splattered the A2 Matting Basics B panel with Finetec Moon Gold paint for a little background detail and then mounted the wreath on top and in turn mounted the panel to a Fog card base. I added a Happy Birthday sentiment by die cutting a Phrase Set One die from Slate card. Finally, I added a twine bow and Ivory Seashell Crystal Drops to the flower centres. Around the wreath, I dotted Bubblegum Blush Crystal Drops and also Sweet Shop sequins.

This is a beautiful project and I appreciated seeing the steps in the video. However, I had a hard time understanding what was being said because the audio had so much echo and the dialogue was too fast. I hope your subsequent videos can be improved by enhancing the audio overall. Thank you very much!

Loved to see the watercoloring. So beautiful and yet simple. Could not hear Debby and my volume was turned up all the way. Hope to see more great ideas from her.
