DIY Party Decor Series – Decorating Packages with Felt Flowers – Finale
Hi friends! Welcome to my final DIY Party Décor series post. I’m Debi Adams, an in-house designer at Spellbinders and celebrations are my favorite. Today I thought it might be fun to work a different party angle by focusing on the gifts rather than the actual decorations. Who wouldn’t be drawn to pretty packaging and embellished presents? It doesn’t need to be fancy or expensive to be expressive and personal. There are truly numerous ways to make a gift sparkle but for today, I have three different designs or embellishments that you can create using felt and only three dies.
Jar Topper
The first project is a jar topper where the flowers and leaves have been created from varying shades and colors of felt.
To get started, I used three petals to form the flower. One was used on its side and rolled up and adhered in place. I then attach two more petals fairly tightly around the rolled one.
Once the inner bud was made, I simply add more petals, making sure to overlap each one slightly. Add as many as you like until your flower is the size you like. It looks best to make several different sizes of roses for the lid as seen here. Die cut several leaves in different shades of felt. Both dies have different leaves. Attach the flowers and leaves to the jar lid until it has been fully covered. An optional look is putting a mini wool felt ball into the center of the flower. You can fill the jar with candy or wrap a gift and put it inside. I have also seen where you put a tiny hook inside the underneath part of the lid. You are then able to dangle a necklace from the lid. Super cute gift.
You have now learned how to make the roses and leaves. All the rest of the ideas involve applying those elements in a different way.
Wrapped Package – Stretchy Headband
Here the roses and leaves are attached to a baby stretch headband. What makes this topper especially nice is it can be used as a part of the gift or the headband can be saved and reused for another gift. Additionally, because it’s stretchy, it can be used on multiple-sized packages.
Embroidery Hoop Tag
Stretching black felt onto a small embroidery hoop and attaching the flowers and leaves, makes a great tag for a gift. It also can be used as a gift in itself. Stitch your own sentiment and it’s complete!
Anyway you decorate your gift for a party, I’m sure it’s going to be a hit.
And here we see the trio. Don’t they look like they are going to a party?
