Heat Embossing Beautiful Metallics | TryDay Friday
You know how we love our Try Day Friday series! Each Friday afternoon on our Facebook page, our concept designer Shannon Smith shares a new technique with you LIVE. Isn’t that so fun? This week Shannon is trying something new even for her! If you saw the video tutorial, we think that you may have already tried this combo since it’s so pretty. If you’d like to watch on our YouTube channel, you can see the video right here. Make sure you leave Shannon a comment and let her know how much you enjoyed her projects and appreciate her sharing a fun project with all of us.
I don’t even know what the words are to describe this stunning card. Extraordinary? Spectacular? Incredible? Each of those would certainly work because this card is just as beautiful as you’ve ever seen with it’s heat embossed texture and mixed metal finishes. Shannon combined copper, gold AND rose gold on this card in addition to combining heat embossing with PanPastels. Should we take a quick look at how she put it together?
A simple panel is cut from Whip Cream cardstock and the bottom 1/4-1/3 of the panel is inked with the Clear Pigment Ink Pad. The heaviest pressure will be at the edge of the card, working it’s way lighter toward the top part of the inked portion.
After applying the Rose Gold Embossing Powder, you can heat that powder with your Journey Heat Gun and let the heat do it’s magic! You’ll be astounded to see how beautiful that metallic rose gold finish is!
On the other side, we’ll recreate the exact same steps, except this time using the Copper Embossing Powder.
Now, we’re going to begin putting it all together. On the side of the Whip Cream Cardstock closer to the Rose Gold Embossing Powder, you’ll add Rose Gold PanPastel to half of the white space, blending it for a beautiful finish. You’ll do the same on the white space that is left with the Copper PanPastel. Now, step back and admire your metallic finish! It is beautiful!
Before we embellish, one of the last steps is to add our sentiment. We love this Thank You from our Everyday Script stamp set – it’s just so pretty! Using our Journey Vellum as the background, stamp the sentiment with the Clear Pigment Ink Pad. When you’re finished you can sprinkle the Copper Embossing Powder, making sure it’s completely covered. You’ll bring out the Journey Heat Gun again to create that metallic finish we love!
You know that sky is the limit with heat embossing! We love the idea Shannon used here and bet you have some amazing ideas, too! Are you as inspired by this gorgeous card as we are? Thinking about creating one of your own? Why not check out Shannon’s ideas here in the video to get your creativity flowing?

Hi Shannon, loved seeing you do this card with embossing powder, been forever since I’ve used them. The card you did today made me want to get embossing powders out and work with them again! Especially liked the way you added the pan pastels!! I am even thinking about trying each of these products on a piece of miniature dollhouse furniture, I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for anther great Tryday/Friday!!!! XXOO
