Embossing With Thin Metal Dies | Tools, Tips and Techniques!

You know how we love our Try Day Friday series but have you ever tuned in to our T3 Series?  Each Tuesday morning on our Facebook page, our Creative Director Kim Kesti shares a project with you LIVE using a tip, a technique or a great FSJ Tool.  Isn’t that so fun?  This week, Kim is sharing something so incredibly cool!  Not only that, it’s so easy to do if you have any of our thin metal dies. There are so many beautiful pieces of the card, but you put it all together for a sparkly result!  Let’s talk a bit about that embossed background!

We started with a Color Splash Sheet and spritzed it with water from our Media Mister.  This paper is thicker than our cardstock and is perfect for embossing! It creates a deep emboss with beautiful texture.

After the water, to add a bit of golden shimmer, the Shimmer Gold Color Splash was spritzed on the Color Splash Sheet.  Such a beautiful addition to the background paper.

A wet paintbrush was used to brush the Gold Shimmer around — smoothing it’s appearance out on the Color Splash Sheet.

Now, it’s time to emboss! A combination of snowflake dies from the Snow Blooms and Journey Blooms Die Sets were used to create a varied and embossed background.

Now, to emboss!  We use the Platinum Machine, the tan Embossing Mat and the Green Embossing Plate with the dies face down on the paper. Once it’s all set up it gets run thru the machine!

Isn’t that stunning?  The embossing is beautiful and love the gold background.  But, let’s not stop there!  Let’s now build our beautiful card on top of that.

The first step was to use both our Silver and Gold Silks.  We love how the mixed colors look fantastic and how their finish appears on the Color Splash Sheets. So very pretty!  We can now cut those same snowflake shapes from the Journey Blooms and Snow Blooms dies we used for the background using our Silver Mirror Paper.  The last touches are the Holiday Sparkles, Silver Sparkle Washi Tape and the sentiment!
