Destinations China Inspiration | Intricate Die Ink Blending with Keeway
Hi crafty friends! It’s Keeway from Kiwi Koncepts, and I’m here to share some inspiration with the Destination China collection by Lene Lok. Last time I created some traditional lunar new year cards with strong red and gold colors, but today I decided to take a softer take using the Lucky Clouds dies from the collection.
I love this die! Clouds often times symbolize the celestial realm, which is a setting that comes up a lot in the Chinese story tales I’ve read growing up, so seeing these iconic cloud shapes bring back a lot of memories.
Although this die is also intricate, the cloud shapes were still easy to ink blend individually, and I knew after putting in the work, it would create a very cool look. So I die cut the clouds out of Bristol paper, popped out some of the larger swirls, and blended each individually with Broken China and Tumbled glass distress oxide inks. I inlaid most of them back in, kept them in place with a little tape behind it, and removed some of the smaller niche cuts.
I carefully added foam tape behind the clouds and mounted it to a white A2 sized base card. I heat embossed the words ‘may you be blessed with health + happiness’ in white onto Neenah Desert Storm cardstock, trimmed it down to a thin rectangle, and added it to my card with foam tape. This finishes up the card.
I made a teeny little edit at the very end to add this little Monkey King (who travels on a cloud) to this card before it gets sent off. The legend of the Monkey King is an iconic Chinese Tale that my sister and I grew up with and I know she’ll love this card when she gets this card!
