Sparkling Christmas Inspiration – Foiled Cardmaking Ideas with Jenny
Hi there fellow crafters, it’s Jenny from JCCards here! I’m excited to be guesting here on the Spellbinders blog, sharing two card projects I created using the gorgeous new Sparkling Christmas collection.
Both of my projects today use Glimmer plates from the collection and I was inspired by some of the gorgeous colors of glimmer foils available that aren’t what you think of as traditional Christmas colors. For those of you who haven’t started a Glimmer collection, believe me the effect is stunning, and I’m addicted.
If you haven’t used the Glimmer Hot Foil System before (or even if you have), I highly recommend you check out the Spellbinders YouTube channel which has plenty of tips for using it. I find them invaluable to get fabulous results every time. There’s a dedicated Glimmer Hot Foil System Playlist with loads of valuable information:
Winter Greetings
My first card features the Christmas Essential Glimmer Rectangles, Essential Rectangles, Kaleidoscope Christmas Tree dies and Christmas Mix & Match Sentiments.
My non-traditional color was inspired by the blue range of Glimmer foils. I foiled the two smaller Christmas Essentials Glimmer Rectangles on a panel of Whip Cream using Teal and Skybright foils. I also die-cut the panel with an Essential Rectangle (dotted rectangle and main die), and backed the panel with Pool Play cardstock so it peeped through the holes, to give an ombre look alongside the foiled images.
For my focal image, I used the Kaleidoscope Christmas Tree dies. These are a set of three dies that fit on top of each other, letting a small part of the underneath layer peep through for a gorgeous effect. I carried through a similar ombre effect in my tree using Denim Days and Pool Play cardstock, plus some pale blue glitter cardstock from my stash. I adhered them together and mounted them into the centre of the card panel with foam squares.
For a touch of bling, I cut the tree topper, as well as my sentiment from Christmas Mix & Match Sentiments, from Gold Mirror cardstock. I love how you can use these sentiment dies in different combinations – like a word puzzle! I mounted them with adhesive, and finished with a gold heat embossed sentiment from the To You and Yours stamp set, on Denim Days cardstock, trimmed out. I couldn’t resist adding a few jewel drops to look like glass tree ornaments, before mounting it all onto a Whip Cream card base.
Merry And Bright
My next card features the Merry Salutations Glimmer Plate. You may recall a recent monthly Glimmer of the Month that featured the word Thanks with a similar look – one of my favorites! I’m so pleased to see this style being featured again. I love bold, focal sentiments like this.
I decided to go for a more pink vibe on this card, inspired by Magenta Glimmer foil which I used for the main sentiment. I foiled it onto Whip Cream cardstock, using a washi tape hinge on my plate, foiling it twice to get a clear impression. I also foiled the ‘And Bright’ sentiment in the set in the same foil onto Black Licorice cardstock and mounted it across the bottom. This foil color looks gorgeous against both light and dark cardstocks.
To add some more interest, I foiled several of the holly leaves in Aura Glimmer foil onto Bubblegum cardstock, and the flower centers onto Watermelon Fusion cardstock. This is my favorite foil, it’s GORGEOUS. I cut them all out with the coordinating dies, as well as some of the branch dies from Bubblegum cardstock, and the holly berries from Watermelon Fusion. I mounted all of the pieces in around the sentiment with foam and liquid adhesive, and finished with a few iridescent rhinestones. I mounted the entire piece onto a Watermelon Fusion cardbase with a tiny edge peeping out to give a finished look.
