Inspiration with Susan’s Tropical Getaway by Andrea Shell

Hello! It’s Andrea Shell with you, and I’m delighted to be back guest-designing on the Spellbinders blog. While I know that many of us are in the throes of holiday projects, I’m sharing two cards featuring Susan’s Tropical Getaway Dies. Think of this as a mini vacay!

My first card uses the gorgeous Hibiscus Dies from the Tropical Getaway Collection. Don’t those flowers look so realistic?! That look is easy to achieve when you use Susan’s Specialty Cardstock and her Ultimate Took Kit and follow her methods for coloring and shaping the flowers (For tutorials visit the Spellbinders YouTube channel). I did that for both of my projects. To color my hibiscus blooms, I used the following Copic colors: RV10, RV06, RV09, and Y18.

Once I had finished coloring, shaping, and assembling my flowers, I set about creating my card. First, I embossed a panel of white cardstock with the Sun Rays Embossing Folder and adhered the panel to a white card. I diecut the oval with the two largest dies from the Essential Ovals Dies and affixed it to my card.

I glued the hibiscus blooms to the oval and tucked the leaves around and under them. For my sentiment I die cut gold glitter paper with the Simply Perfect Mix & Match Sentiments Dies. I embellished my card with a scattering of iridescent gems.

My second card features the Plumeria Dies. I colored these flowers with RV04 and Y19 and used a tiny clay piece in the flower’s center.

To create the white frame, I die cut cardstock with the Essential Label and Essential Ovals Dies. I backed the opening with a patterned paper from my stash and adhered it to a white card with foam tape.

I arranged my flowers and leaves around the frame’s opening. For my sentiment I cut “congrats” twice with the Simply Perfect Mix & Match Sentiments Dies. I layered the two die cuts together and affixed the word to my card. Finally, I finished with a scattering of clear gems.

Thanks for stopping by! I had so much fun creating with the Tropical Getaway Dies! If you need a break from the holidays or are dreaming of warmer temps, I invite you to have a play with these dies and imagine yourself relaxing in a tropical location.
