Color Block Mini Shapes Collection with Annie Williams

Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m excited to be back on the blog today to share a couple of projects using the new Color Block Mini Shapes Collection from Spellbinders. The fun layered shapes in this collection inspired me to piece together three eye-catching designs to create colorful cards for several different occasions.

Mini Inverted Squares Card

I loved the look of the Mini Inverted Squares Die Set and thought it would make a beautiful background for a card.  Here I used shades of black, white, and grey along with pops of gold for an elegant thank-you card.

  • Die-cut Onyx, Graphite, Lunar Gray, Silver Fox, Mirror Gold, and white cardstock using the inverted square shapes die from the Mini Inverted Squares Die Set.
  • Die-cut white cardstock using the base die from the set and piece the shapes back together on top, alternating colors.
  • Trim a piece of white cardstock to 4” x 5.25” and add the assembled squares on top to cover about two-thirds of the panel.
  • Trim any overhanging shapes at the bottom with a paper trimmer or scissors.
  • Die-cut Onyx and Mirror Gold Cardstock using the thanks die from Yana’s Layered Script Sentiments Die Set and adhere the layers together with liquid glue.
  • Add the background panel to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive.
  • Adhere the sentiment above the pattern with liquid glue.

Mini Drops Card

It’s so much fun to experiment with not only different colors using the Color Block Mini Shapes, but also different patterns.  Here I created a loopy strip design using the Color Block Mini Drops Die Set for this bright friendship card.

  • Arrange the drops into a loopy strip pattern down the center of the card base and adhere down with liquid glue.
  • Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using a sentiment from Yana’s Special Sentiments Foil Plate Set and the Glimmer Hot Foil Machine.
  • Cut it out using the coordinating die and adhere it to the card front with foam adhesive.

Mini Petals Card

Lastly, I wanted to use the shapes to create a focal point for a card.  Here I added a simple embossed background and a foiled sentiment for this easy Father’s Day card.
