August 2022 Embossing Folder of the Month Kit – Card Inspiration with Annie Williams

Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m excited to be back on the blog today to share a couple of projects using the August Embossing Folder of the Month Kit from Spellbinders.  The simple and beautiful pattern of the Intertwined Lattice Embossing Folder is perfect for adding just a little texture to fun backgrounds for cards of all occasions.

The design of the Intertwined Lattice Embossing Folder is just subtle enough to combine with fun techniques, bold colors, and even other patterns.  Here I embossed patterned paper to create a more interesting background for this bright summer hello card.

  • Trim a piece of patterned paper to 4.75” square and emboss it using the Intertwined Lattice Embossing Folder.
  • Lightly rub white pigment ink over the raised areas of the embossed panel to bring out the pattern even more.
  • Adhere the panel to a top-folding 5” square white card base with a tape runner.

  • Die cut white cardstock using the Essential Squares Die Set.
  • Die cut Indigo and white cardstock using one of the sentiments from the Layered Mix & Match Sentiments Die Set and adhere together with liquid glue.
  • Stamp images from the Perfect Floral Bloom Stamp Set onto white cardstock in bright colors and cut them out with the coordinating dies.

Next, I wanted to try a fun double-inking technique and the bold background I created was perfect for a simple, more masculine card.

  • Trim a piece of white cardstock to 3.75” x 5”.
  • Apply Peacock Feathers and Prize Ribbon Distress Oxide Ink over the more solid side of the Intertwined Lattice Embossing Folder and emboss the white panel.
  • Once dry, rub Black Soot Distress Ink over the raised areas of the embossed panel to yield a colorful double-inked background.

  • Add the leafy sprig and sentiment to the front of the card with more foam adhesive.

Lastly, I decided to create a pretty embossed vellum window for this fun summertime hello card.

  • Die cut the front of a top-folding A2-sized white card base with the Fluted Classics Rectangle and Circles Die Sets as shown.
  • Emboss a small panel of heavyweight vellum using the Intertwined Lattice Embossing Folder and adhere behind the window in the card base with a tape runner.
  • You can line the inside of the card with another window panel to hide any overhanging edges and also add colored cardstock inside behind the window for some fun contrast (I added some Raindrop Cardstock inside of mine).
