Metamorphosis Collection Cardmaking Ideas

Hello crafty friends!  It’s Jung here, and I am back with another guest post on the Spellbinders blog. Today, I made 3 cards using the new Metamorphosis collection by Simon Hurley.

Butterfly Hugs Card

For my first card, I used butterflies, stained glass window, and sentiment dies. I started out my card with the stained glass window. I used Distress inks to ink blend a panel of white cardstock. Next, I taped the outer die to the detailed die to keep the spacing the same. I die-cut my ink blended panel with the stained glass window die, and I diecut 3 more panels from white cardstock to layer behind for dimension. I also used the outer die to die-cut a piece of vellum. (I wanted to create a window effect, but I don’t think it made much of a difference since my card base is white.)

I also die-cut the other elements of my card. I die-cut one of the large butterfly dies; I die-cut the detailed piece from pink glitter foam and the outline piece from pink cardstock. I die-cut the “hugs” sentiment from black cardstock, twice more from white cardstock, and the outline from white cardstock.

To assemble my card, I glued the stained glass die cuts together, sandwiching the vellum piece in between the layers. I also glued the 2 butterfly pieces together, and the sentiment pieces. I glued the stained glass window to a white A2 card base.  Then, I adhered the butterfly on top with a foam square in the middle. I glued the sentiment on top of the butterfly.

Hello Floral Card

For my second card, I used flowers, stained glass window, and sentiment dies. I started out by die-cutting all of my pieces. I wanted 3 flowers on my card, so I die-cut enough pieces from colored cardstock. I added just a tiny bit of shading with Copic markers. Then, I die-cut the pieces for the “hello” sentiment, again cutting the hello once from black cardstock, and twice more from white cardstock for stacking. I also die-cut the stained glass window twice; once from a panel I added just a little bit of ink blending, and once from white cardstock.

Next, I assembled the diecut pieces. I glued the flowers together. I decided I wanted the inner black pieces of the flower to be fore dimensional, so I diecut them twice more from black cardstock and glued them stacked. I also glued the 2 stained glass windows together, and the “hello” sentiment pieces together.

I glued the stained glass window to a white A2 card base.  Then, I adhered the flowers and leaves with some thin foam tape.  I also adhered the “hello” sentiment with foam tape.  I decided that I wanted to add a little sentiment strip, so I looked for a sentiment that would coordinate with the sentiment dies.  I foiled the “sending hugs” sentiment from the mini sincere sentiments, diecut it using a sentiment die, and adhered it to the card under the die cut hello.  To finish off the card, I scattered on a few pink gems.

Happy Birthday Butterfly Card

For my third card, I used the butterfly and sentiment dies. First, I die-cut all of my pieces. I die-cut one of the butterflies; the intricate part 3 times from white cardstock, and the outline from pink glitter foam. I also die-cut the “happy birthday” dies once from black cardstock, and twice more from white cardstock. This time, I decided not to diecut the outer portion of the sentiments. I glued together the butterfly and sentiment dies and set them aside to work on the background.

For the background, I thought it would be cute to ink some clouds. I used the large die from the color block cloudscape dies, and a piece of acetate to create my own stencil. I used the stencil to ink blend some clouds with Distress inks.

To assemble the card, I adhered the cloud background to a white A2 card base with foam tape. Then, I glued on the happy birthday dies to the lower left of the card. I glued the butterfly to the upper right of the card. I needed another sentiment strip, so I used the same sentiment glimmer set as the second card, and foiled the “love you my friend.” I nestled it under the die cut sentiment. To finish the card, I added pink gems.

These cards were so fun to make. Since the die cuts are relatively bigger, it’s so easy to fill and put together a card. Also, I love butterflies, so I was thrilled to see the butterfly dies. I hope you got some inspiration from my cards and blog post today. Make sure to head over to the Spellbinders site to check out these beautiful products. Thanks so much for stopping by.
