More Masculine Cards Ideas with Toolbox Essentials

Hello, crafty friends! It’s Emily Leiphart here and I’m thrilled to be guesting on the Spellbinders blog, featuring the Toolbox Essentials Collection.

When I create sets of cards with a common color theme, I always look at how many colors I would need, then choose my colors accordingly. Once colors are selected, I cut all of the pieces at the same time in every color, then sit down and glue them all together at once. This makes it easy to create several cards at one time with extras for later.

If you’re like me and find it hard to make masculine cards, this new collection will make it easy to grab and go! Whether you like the simplicity and wow factor of heat foiling or the joy of assembling layered die cuts, there’s something for you in this wonderful new collection.

Nailed It Card

My first card features a color block background that I created by taping trimmed pieces together, then cutting with the largest of the Precision Layering A2 A Etched Dies.

Next, I used the Nailed It! Hot Foil Plate with Matte Silver Hot Foil down the left side of the panel. I also heat-foiled the sentiment on black cardstock and cut it out using the bottom piece of the ruler from All the Tools Dies.

I did this by partially die-cutting it from one end where the hole appears and using the same end again for the other half of the sentiment. I thought the holes were perfect for the punny sentiment. This card was so simple to make but the combination of the color block background and Matte Silver Hot Foil takes it up a notch.

You Fixed Card

My second card features All the Tools Dies which I instantly fell in love with. My husband is a jack-of-all-trades and pretty hand around the house so I had a lot of fun making this card for him. It would also be fun to rotate the colors and repeat different versions of the same image on a card, too.

I stamped the sentiment from A Cut Above the Rest Stamp & Die Set on black cardstock using watermark ink, then heat embossed it with silver embossing powder. I used the smallest of the coordinating frame dies, layering it with colors that match the images.

I love the drama of the tools cut from the matte silver foil on the black background. The tools have so much detail and texture, which I love since it makes them look so realistic.

A Cut Above The Rest Card

For my last card, I paired up the two cutting tools from All the Tools Dies with a coordinating sentiment from A Cut Above the Rest Stamp & Die Set. This time, I chose a simple background and stamped the sentiment directly onto the panel, also cut with the Precision Layering A2 A Etched Dies.

I balanced the card by using the same tools in the same colors on the top and bottom of the card but reversed their direction for visual interest.

To fill in the space and balance the card, I added some black star sequins which also emphasize the encouraging sentiment. The new Toolbox Essentials Collection offers so many possibilities with just three sets and it’s so easy to mix and match every set in this collection.

I hope you find inspiration from this fun trio of masculine cards! Using the same colors to create a set like this is fast and easy, especially when working with multiple die-cut pieces for each image.
