Pop-Up Hummingbird Cards with Rachel Alvarado

Hello crafty friends! It’s Rachel Alvarado from RachelAlvaradoDesigns.com. I am so happy to be back for another guest post on the Spellbinder’s blog. I have a few 3D projects to share with you today that feature the gorgeous new Hummingbird Collection by Bibi Cameron.

Pop-Up Hummingbird Slimline Card

For my first card, I created an 8.5” x 3.5” slimline card featuring both the Pop-Up Hummingbird and Hummingbird and Lily Die Sets. For photo purposes, I am showing you both the front and inside of the card at the same time.

For the inside of my card, I pieced together the pop-up hummingbird and pop-up flower from the Pop-Up Hummingbird Die Set. I used both Purple Mist and Lilac Blossom Card Stock for my hummingbird and flower and some Peridot Card Stock for my leaves. I added some shading on my bird and flowers using some Dusty Concord Distress Ink. I also added a little bit of shading on my leaves with some Mowed Lawn Distress Ink. I absolutely love how fun it is to open this card and see both the hummingbird and flower pop up!

For the outside of my card, I blended a piece of Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock with some Milled Lavender, Wilted Violet, and Black Soot Distress Oxide Inks starting with my darkest color at the lower left corner and working my way upward to my lightest.  Next, I die-cut both my lily and hummingbird from the Hummingbird and Lily Die Set, pieced them together, and adhered them to my card with some 3D foam adhesive.  All of my sentiments came from the Hummingbird Sentiments Stamp Set.

Pop-Up Hummingbird Box Card

For my second card, I created a pop-up box card that fits perfectly into a 5×7 envelope when folded flat. I made this box card from scratch and used the Essential Arches Etched Dies to create a rounded background piece.

Box Card Measurements:

  • Cut two pieces of card stock at 6 ¾” x 1 ¼” to create card base
  • Score each base piece at both 2” and 6 ¼” on the long side
  • Adhere both pieces together via their ½” tabs.
  • Die cut the largest arch die from the Essential Arches Etched Die Set and trim ½” off of the bottom
  • Add inside strips by trimming 4 pieces of card stock to 5” x 1” and scoring each piece at 3/8” from each end to create tabs

I die-cut my hummingbirds (from the Pop-Up Hummingbird Die Set) from a piece of Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock and used Copic Markers to color them.

Copic Colors Used:

  • Greens: YG01, YG23, YG17, YG67
  • Pinks: RV52, RV55, RV17

Lastly, I added a few flowers that I had die cut from the Hummingbird Card Creator Die Set.

A2 Pop-Up Hummingbird Card

For my last project, I created an A2 sized card using the Pop-Up Hummingbird Die Set along with the Hummingbird Build a Scene Stamp and Die Set. I once again used Copic Markers (G000, G00, BG34, BG18, BV00, BV02, BV13) to color my Hummingbirds. For my pop-up flower on the inside of the card, I used a blend of Beeswax and Saffron Card Stock. Next, I added a few leaves that I had cut from Rainforest and Fern Card Stock Pieces.

For my card front, I layered it with a piece of Teal Topaz Card Stock.  I used some Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide Ink to add a touch of color and then stamped some grass silhouettes with some Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. Once again, I stamped my sentiment from the new Hummingbird Sentiments Stamp Set.
