Hexi-Gems Card Ideas with Lisa Tilson
Hello everyone, this is Lisa Tilson from My Card Trip and I am thrilled to be a guest on the Spellbinders blog today. I will be featuring the gorgeous new Hexi-Gems Collection and have three cards to share with you. This collection consists of a beautiful floral glimmer hot foil plate, a simple and fun stitching die, some new nesting hexi-gem etched dies, a solid hot foil plate and some fabulous sentiments which are suitable for many different occasions.
Hello Friend Card
My first card is the “busiest” of all of my three cards but I love how it turned out. I started with the stitching element and for this, I took the Stitched Kaleidoscope Hexi-Gems Etched Dies and cut the main die twice from Glacier cardstock. I then took the two smaller dies and cut them both from a Peach Sorbet card and a white card. I set the smaller pieces to one side and stitched the blue panels with some thread from my stash. I selected a peach/blush color so that it would tie in with other elements on the card.
The stitching doesn’t take long and once that was done, I adhered the smaller white and peach card pieces behind the main panel. They layer really well and you can see all the different colors nicely through the holes. It’s definitely worth taking your time on this part to make sure they line up properly as the kaleidoscope effect is beautiful.
For the base, I took the largest of the dies from Essential Hexi-Gems Etched Dies and cut it from Peach Sorbet card. I adhered the stitched panel on top and then added it all to a top folding A2 white notecard. The sentiment is from the Hexi-Gem Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and Die Set and it was heat foiled onto Glacier card with Satin Rose Gold Glimmer Hot Foil. This sentiment set is one where you foil several sentiments in one go and die-cut them in one pass with the coordinating die, super easy!
To add some extra interest to the card, I took the Mini Blooms and Sprigs Etched Dies and cut them from the same blue, peach, and white card that I had used elsewhere. They were assembled and then adhered around the sentiment strip area. I added a few pearls onto the stitched panel and also onto some of the flower centers for decoration.
Hello Lovely Card
My second card is all about glimmer! I just love to foil and the Hexi-Gems Blooms is the most gorgeous glimmer hot foil plate.
So, I started by heat foiling the Hexi-Gems Blooms Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and Die Set using some Matte Gold Glimmer Hot Foil. I foiled onto Glacier cardstock which worked really well and then I cut the flower spray out with the coordinating die. For some extra interest on the blooms, I did a bit of basic Copic coloring and added some shading. I used B95, B93 and B41 to add color and then I used a Colorless Blender to blend out the B41. It’s subtle and perhaps a bit more obvious in real life than in the photo.
For my background, I took a panel of Glacier and temporarily adhered my foiled bloom to it. I took the splatter foil plates from Splatter Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and placed them around the image until I was happy with where they sat. I taped them in place, removed the flower panel and then foiled them with Matte Gold Foil.
Next, I took one of the Essential Hexi-Gems Etched Dies and cut my splattered panel. I die cut a further two hexi-gems from Glacier and adhered all three layers together to form a small stack. I adhered my negative panel to a top folding white heavyweight A2 notecard and then added my Hexi-gem stack back into its slot.
The foiled flower panel was added with thin foam tape for some extra dimension and to finish the card, I took the Making Me Smile Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and Etched Dies and foiled them onto Glacier card, again with Matte Gold Foil. They were cut with the coordinating die and I selected the “Hello Lovely” to be added across my flower. I put a little thin foam tape onto the back of this too.
I think that using minimal colors can be so impactful, particularly when you have a beautiful foiled flower to showcase!
Birthday Wishes Card
My final card is perhaps the simplest of all three in its design but the larger foiled element really helps to kick it up a notch. I did some reverse foiling to achieve that – it’s always good to use up those leftover pieces of foil and the solid shape plates create fabulous focal points for reverse foiling.
To begin, I took a piece of Glimmer Specialty Cardstock and I foiled the Hexi-Gems Bloom Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and Die Set with Blush Glimmer Hot Foil. It foiled beautifully the first time and so I set that panel to one side for a future project. I then took another panel of Specialty Cardstock and the leftover foil. I placed the foil down onto the panel (pretty side up) and then lay the Hexi-Gem Glimmer Hot Foil Plate over the top. It doesn’t quite cover the whole flower, which means you get these little bits that sit outside the main image, which I love.
I then heat-foiled that panel and die-cut the resulting reverse-foiled portion with a die from Essential Hexi-Gems Etched Dies. Taking that reverse foiled piece, I placed it down over some Peach Sorbet cardstock and then lined up the Hexi-Gems Blooms plate over the top. I taped the plate down on one side, removed the reverse foiled piece from underneath and then foiled the floral plate with Blush Glimmer Hot Foil. I then adhered my reverse foiled piece onto the larger peach panel and everything lined up perfectly. The panel was trimmed down and added to a white A2 top folding heavyweight notecard.
For my sentiment, I took the “birthday” and “wishes” from Splatter Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and foiled them onto a white card using Blush Glimmer Hot Foil. I cut the “birthday” out using the die from Yana’s Layered Script Sentiments Etched Dies and cut a further two pieces of white at the same time. I adhered all three layers together to form a solid stack and then added them onto my card. I trimmed the “wishes” sentiment using the sentiment die from Yana’s Tiny Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and Die Set and this was added with some thin foam tape.
To finish the card, I used some pretty iridescent jewels from my stash.
I hope that this gives you some ideas for this lovely collection. To see more inspiration from me, you can find me over on my blog, Instagram or Pinterest. Thank you so much for joining me today on the Spellbinders blog. I hope that you have a great day!
