Autumn Interactive Card Ideas
Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m excited to be back on the blog today to share a couple of interactive cards made with some of the latest autumn-themed collections from Spellbinders. I love sending cards that incorporate some kind of surprise element for the recipient and I hope to inspire you to create your own shaker, scratch-off, and light-up cards too!
Autumn Woods Shaker Card
If you’re new to interactive cards, shaker cards are a good place to start because they’re relatively easy to put together and the recipient can usually figure out how to work them. Here I created a shaker that looks like the hole of a tree and decorated it with pretty fall icons for a fun thinking of you card.
Trim a piece of Dune Cardstock to 5.25” square, cut the center out with the medium circle inner rim die from the Fluted Classics Circles Die Set, and then emboss the panel with the Knock On Wood 3D Embossing Folder. Adhere a piece of Clear Acetate Sheet behind the window with liquid glue, cut a circular frame for the window out of Mirror Gold Cardstock using the Fluted Classics Circles Die Set, and adhere it to the front of the panel. Place foam adhesive over the back of the panel ensuring a tight seal around the window, add Fall Frenzy Mix Upz and Gold Smooth Discs to the window area, and close up the shaker with a piece of Latte Cardstock.
Mat the shaker element with Mirror Gold Cardstock and adhere it all to a top-folding 5.5” square white card base. Decorate the outside of the window with various elements from the Autumn Wonder Die Set, adding shading to the die-cuts with Distress Ink for depth and dimension. To finish off the card, apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using one of the greetings from the Must-Have Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set, cut it out with the coordinating die, and add to the top corner of the card with foam adhesive.
Sunflower Scratch-Off Card
The great part about Scratch Off Sheets is that you can die-cut them in any shape to cover your message and make them blend into your scene for an extra fun surprise. Here I added my hidden message in the center of just one of my sunflowers for a cute way to tell mom she’s extra loved.
Die cut Sunkissed, Fern, Latte, and Timber Cardstocks using the Sunflower Serenade Die Set (coming soon!) and ink the flowers and leaves with Carved Pumpkin and Rustic Wilderness Distress Ink before assembling, leaving the center off of one of the flowers. Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using the “Best Mom” greeting from the We Dance Glimmer Plate Set and the “Just A Note” greeting from the Must-Have Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set. Use the flower center die from the Sunflower Serenade Die Set to cut both the “Best Mom” sentiment and a piece of Gold Scratch Off Sheet. Stamp “scratch off” on top of the die-cut scratch-off center using the Take Action Stamp Set and Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink (heat-set the ink to ensure it doesn’t smudge) and apply the sticker on top of the sentiment die-cut before adhering it to the center of the last flower.
Trim a piece of Raindrop Cardstock to 4.25” x 5.5”, emboss it with the Geo Screen Embossing Folder, and adhere it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base. Die-cut white cardstock using one of the dies from the Essential Floral Reflection Die Set and add to the card front with foam adhesive. Pop the sentiment and flowers up on top with foam adhesive and embellish with Gold Mix Gems.
Don’t forget to include a scratcher disc in the envelope when you send this card…what an unexpected surprise this will be for mom!
Light Up Pumpkins Card
Finally, who doesn’t love when pumpkins really light up on a cute Halloween card? Here I kept the scene just a tiny bit spooky and lit up the pumpkins from the Fall Sampler Die Set using an EZ-Light kit…and it really was easy!
Die cut Saffron, Terra Cotta, and Persimmon Cardstock using the pumpkin and face dies from the Fall Sampler Die Set and add shading to the die-cuts with orange and brown Distress Inks. Die cut vellum (I used gold vellum here) with the pumpkin dies from the set and adhere behind the cardstock die-cuts with liquid glue. Die cut a hill out of Rainforest Cardstock using the Color Block Scenic Scape Die Set, stamp the “push here” button in the largest part of the hill using the Take Action Stamp Set, and add Mowed Lawn Distress Ink to the top of the hill with a blending brush. Die cut the sunflowers and tall grass using the Garden Builder Die Set and assemble with liquid glue.
Trim a piece of Glacier Cardstock to 4.25” x 5.5”, emboss a sentiment from the Dancin’ Halloween Sentiments Stamp Set in white in the top corner, and ink around the edges with Salty Ocean and Wilted Violet Distress Ink before adding to a top-folding A2-sized white card base. Glue the battery/switch pack to the card front so that it lines up with the stamped button on your hill and arrange your lights behind where the pumpkins will be, tacking down the wires with Best Ever Craft Tape. Adhere the hill and pumpkins over the light kit with foam adhesive, then tuck the tall grasses between the pumpkins with liquid glue and add some sunflowers to finish off the scene.
Don’t forget to test your lights before you send the card…what a cute Halloween surprise for your recipient!
