Creating Colorful Cards to Send a Smile with the Spotlight Frames & Florals Collection
Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m thrilled to be back on the blog today to share a couple of cheerful cards made with new Spotlight Frames & Florals Collection by Lisa Horton. The beautiful floral stems, unique layered sentiments, and fun background dies and press plates in the collection inspired me to create three colorful cards perfect for sending a smile to a friend.
Anemone Hello Card
The Stitched Edge Circle Backgrounds Die Set provides the perfect base on which to build a beautiful focal point. Here I creating a simple dual-toned chevron spotlight and added some pretty florals and a stacked sentiment for a sweet and modern hello card.
Trim a piece of white cardstock to 4.125” x 5.375” and die cut the center out using the inner circle die from the Stitched Edge Circle Backgrounds Die Set. Blend Peacock Feathers and Salvaged Patina Distress Ink up from the bottom of the panel using a blending brush. Die cut white cardstock using the outer circle die and the zig-zag insert from the same set and adhere it over the aperture using liquid glue. Pop the entire panel up on top of Mirror Silver Cardstock with foam adhesive and adhere it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with tape runner.
Die cut white, Lilac Blossom, and Rainforest Cardstock using the Layered Anemone Die Set, add a little shading with Shaded Lilac, Villainous Potion, and Mowed Lawn Distress Ink, and assemble with liquid glue. Die cut the sentiment out of Lilac Blossom, white, and Mirror Silver Cardstock using the A Little Hello Sentiments Stamp & Die Set and add the layered hello on top of the frame with the floral stems. Embellish with Crystal Mix Gems.
Sunny Iris Smile Card
I loved the message in the You Make Me Smile Sentiments Stamp & Die Set and thought nothing would make me smile more than bright and sunny yellows and oranges. With a couple of gorgeous layered irises, this card is sure to make my recipient smile too!
Trim a piece of Alabaster Cardstock to 4” x 5.25” and lightly blend Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges before adhering it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive. Die cut Dune Cardstock using the Woven Lattice Texture Die Set and adhere it to the center of the card front with liquid glue. Die cut various shades of orange, yellow, and green cardstocks using the Layered Iris Die Set and assemble with liquid glue, adding a second flower instead of a small bud on the right side.
Die cut the sentiment from Alabaster and Persimmon Cardstock using the You Make Me Smile Sentiments Stamp & Die Set and adhere the layers together with liquid glue. Stamp the sub-sentiments from the set onto white cardstock using brown ink and cut out with the coordinating die. Adhere the floral stem and sentiments to the card front with foam adhesive.
80s Inspired Hello Card
The patterns in the Spotlight Circle Duo Press Plate Set and the Stitched Edge Circle Backgrounds Die Set reminded me a bit of the fun geometric patterns from the 1980s. So I decided to use them to create a bright background for this clean and simple hello card inspired by one of my favorite decades.
Ink up the stripes spotlight press plate from the Spotlight Circle Duo Press Plate Set with Taffy BetterPress ink and press it onto Porcelain Cotton Cardstock. Repeat using the halftone dots spotlight press plate and Azure BetterPress Ink. Die cut off the side of the cardstock using the zig zag insert from the Stitched Edge Circle Backgrounds Die Set, adhere Peridot Cardstock behind the opening with liquid glue, and mat the entire panel with Onyx Cardstock before adhering to a top-folding A2-sized white card base.
Die cut Onyx, white, and Fruit Punch Cardstock using the A Little Hello Sentiments Stamp & Die Set and adhere the layers together with liquid glue. Stamp the sub-sentiments onto white cardstock using black ink and cut the out with the coordinating die. Die cut Onyx Cardstock as well with the coordinating die and adhere one of the oval shapes to the back of the stamped sentiment as a shadow. Pop both sentiments up on top of the card front with foam adhesive.
