Using Modeling Paste with ColorSpark Watercolor Powders and Corner Rounder Punch

Hello crafty friends! It’s Rachel Alvarado from RachelAlvaradoDesigns.com. I have a few cards to share with you showcasing how to mix modeling paste with watercolor powders.

I made three cards using The Crafter’s Workshop Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste along with a variety of TCW ColorSparx Watercolor Powders and the 1-2 Punch: Corner Rounder + Notch.

The technique of mixing modeling paste and watercolor powders is super easy to do and can allow you to get some vibrant colored backgrounds and/or designs on your cards.  I love how versatile these watercolor powders are because you can also mix them with water to create liquid watercolors to use on your cards and images.

To start, I first put a scoop of the modeling paste onto a smooth surface.  Next, I shook out some of the watercolor powder onto the surface next to the modeling paste.  I then used a small crafting spatula to mix the two together. For my example above, I used the color Fuchsia from the Berry Punch ColorSpark Watercolor Powder Trio.

TIP:  Start with only a small amount of the powder and keep adding more if you want a deeper color.  If you want more of a pastel or muted color, you will only need a little bit of the powder.  If you overdo it, you can always add more modeling paste to help tone it down.

Once I had my color mixed into the modeling paste, I then used it with the Kaleidoscope Window Stencil and applied a small amount to the center area of my card.

For my purple background above, I used the Wisteria ColorSparx Watercolor from the Alpine ColorSparx Watercolor Powder Trio.

TIP: Make sure to allow your backgrounds to dry and set completely before you stamp your sentiments or add any images or die cuts on top of it.

For my first two cards shown above, I also used the Corner Rounder Punch to easily create some rounded edges on my card bases and layers.  Prior to adding my flowers and after my stenciled modeling paste had dried, I stamped my sentiments from the  Hummingbird Sentiments Clear Stamps Set with some Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.  Lastly, I added some gorgeous flowers from the popular Club Blooms Die Set with some 3D foam adhesive squares for a pop of dimension.  You can add whatever images or die cuts you want to your backgrounds, but I decided to use the Club Blooms because I felt that they complemented the stenciled backgrounds well.

I hope you enjoyed my cards today!  Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!  If you liked these cards and want some more inspiration, feel free to check out my INSTAGRAM page.
