A Collection for All Seasons
Hello there, Michelle Short here and I am delighted to be back on the Spellbinders blog today sharing three projects using Nichol’s Needlework Collection. This collection features lots of dies that can be used to create faux embroidery. If you are not into embroidery and sewing, a lot of the dies can be used without the needlework elements as well and I have one project showing that today.
This collection is already very versatile but even better is that it can be used for so many occasions – everyday, Halloween, fall, autumn, Christmas and the holidays … plus lots more!
CHRISTMAS MAGIC
For my first card, I created a Christmas card using a lot of the needlework elements. I thought it would be perfect to send to a sewing friend!
To make this card:
- Die cut embroidery hoop from Gathering Stitches from Dune, Snowdrift, and Gold Assortment Treasured Cardstock. Cut the outside hoop piece 3 times.
- Die-cut Faux Embroidered Spruce from Latte and Fern Cut the ornaments from Poppy Field Cardstock. Cut the star from Gold Assortment Treasured Cardstock.
- Adhere tree pieces onto the embroidery part of the hoop using Bearly Art Glue.
- Adhere hoop pieces together using Bearly Art Glue, adding Best Ever Craft Tape to the back to keep the embroidery piece in place.
- Stamp sentiment from Nichol’s Needlework Sentiments Clear Stamp Set in top right-hand corner of A2 sized card base made from Poppy Field Cardstock with Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink.
- Apply Gold Embossing Powder and heat set.
- Add ink blending around the edges of the card using Blending Brushes and red ink.
TIP: The embossing powder will resist any ink blending, but if there is any excess on top, wipe away with a soft dry cloth.
- Adhere embroidery hoop to card using Bearly Art Glue.
- Die cut spool (twice), spool thread (twice), needle and thread from Needleworker Tool Kit from Dune, Poppy Field, Fern and Silver Assortment Treasured Cardstock.
- Add ink blending to spools with brown ink and adhere pieces together using Bearly Art Glue.
- Adhere spools to card using thin foam tape and adhere needle and thread with Bearly Art Glue.
- Apply Christmas Red Stickles to ornaments and thread.
- Embellish with Gold Mix Color Essentials Gems.
HALLOWEEN PUMPKINS
For my next project, I thought I would create a Halloween tag. I don’t usually send Halloween cards, but I do often like to gift sweets/candy to friends and family and thought that a Halloween tag added to the bag would look cute!
To make this tag:
- Cut panel of white cardstock to 4” x 2.5”.
- Place inside 3-in-1 Tag Punch to cut the top into a tag.
- Stamp sentiment from Gnome Drive Sentiments Clear Stamp Set at the bottom using black ink.
- Die-cut Faux Embroidered Pumpkin Etched Dies from Persimmon, Onyx, Lilac Blossom, Peridot and Silver Assortment Treasured Cardstock.
- Add ink blending to pumpkin, leaves and flowers with Distress Inks.
- Adhere band and buckle to hat and then place pumpkin inside, secure hat to pumpkin with Best Ever Craft Tape at the back.
- Adhere pumpkin and hat to the tag using thin foam tape.
- Adhere foliage using Bearly Art Glue and flowers with thin foam tape.
- Tie twine through the top of the tag and tie in a double bow.
- To finish, embellish with Prism AB Color Essentials Gems.
Not into Halloween? Remove the hat and change the sentiment, maybe add a few more pumpkins and this would work perfectly for fall/autumn/Thanksgiving too!
BIRTHDAY FLOWERS
For my last project, I wanted to create an everyday card, keeping it clean and simple.
To make this card:
- Die cut embroidery hoop from Gathering Stitches from Dune, Snowdrift and Silver Assortment Treasured Cardstock. Cut the outside hoop piece 3 times.
- Die-cut stems from the set from Peridot Cardstock.
- Die-cut flowers from the set from Teal Topaz, Fruit Punch, Purple Mist, Waterfall and Lilac Blossom
- Adhere stems to embroidery piece using Bearly Art Glue. Adhere flowers on top with thin foam tape.
- Add ink blending to the edges of A2 card base made from Purple Mist Cardstock with Blending Brushes and purple inks.
- Adhere embroidery hoop pieces together (constructing in the same way as card 1) and adhere to card using thin foam tape.
- Hot foil sentiment from Always & Forever Sentiment Strips Press Plate onto white cardstock with Silver Foil using the Glimmer Hot Foil System. Die cut using coordinating die.
- Adhere to card with thin foam tape.
- To finish, embellish with Silver Mix Color Essentials Gems.
This is such a wonderful collection and as you can see, you can use as many or as little of the needlework elements as you wish. Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope you have a wonderful day!

Very cute cards. Can you tell me which die set was used to create the little flowers in your Birthday card sample. Thanks
