Cats & Pugs Galore
Hello crafty friends! It’s Rachel Alvarado from RachelAlvaradoDesigns.com. I am happy to share some fun projects that I made using the new and super adorable Bibi’s Cats & Pugs Collection. I fell in love with this entire collection from the start and had so much fun playing with each set!
My first project is a 9” x 4” slimline card that showcases five sweet little pugs that I created using the Party Puggles Etched Dies. To start my card, I first created my pugs by die-cutting all of my pieces from a variety of Spellbinders colored card stock. I then added some quick ink blending with a dome-shaped blending tool to my die-cut pieces to give them some depth and shading.
If you decide to add some ink to your die cuts as well, you don’t have to use the exact colors that I used, but I will list them below as a reference in case you have some similar colors that would work just as well. I used all Distress Inks on mine. The listing below applies to all my cards that I made in this post.
Ink Colors Used for Shading:
- Red card stock: Picked Raspberry, Gathered Twigs
- Blue card stock: Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean
- Yellow card stock: Antique Linen, Rusty Hinge
- Green Card Stock: Mowed Lawn
- Pink Card Stock: Picked Raspberry, Gathered Twigs
- Beige Card Stock: Antique Linen
- Light Gray Card Stock: Lost Shadow, Pumice Stone
- Dark Gray Card Stock: Pumice Stone, Black Soot
- Brown Card Stock: Gathered Twigs, Ground Espresso
TIP: If you decide to add some ink blending to your card stock, I recommend that you blend your lighter color onto the card stock first after placing your card stock piece onto a blending mat before swiping it with your blending brush. When you go to blend with your dark colors, I suggest that you hold the piece in your hand and only blend the outer edges by flicking your blending brush/tool around the edges. This can help prevent dark blobs from the darker colors.
For my card background, I added some Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink onto the top portion of an 8.5” x 3.5” piece of smooth white card stock. I then added some grass that I had die cut twice with the large grass border die from the Bunch of Borders Etched Dies. I stamped my sentiment from the Cats and Pugs Sentiments Clear Stamp Set with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and then layered my background onto a 9” x 4” piece of white card stock before adhering my pugs with some 3D foam adhesive tape for a pop of dimension.
For my second project, I used the adorable new Big Pug Etched Dies and Cats and Pugs Accessories Etched Dies. I created a shaped card that folds from the top to look like a cute little pug sitting up when finished. You can always place your pug on a regular card base instead, but I really love the look of the card being shaped like the pug itself.
I once again shaded my card stock pieces with some distress ink (colors listed above). When piecing my pug together, I used dimensional foam adhesive tape on some portions to make it look more 3D.
To create my folded card base, I trimmed a piece of Alabaster card stock to 4.25” x 11” and folded it at 5.5” on the 11” side. I then used the large pug die to die cut this piece, making sure to leave the top fold uncut so that the card could open and shut. Lastly, I stamped my sentiment in the center of my card base and attached my pug to the front of it when folded.
For my last card, I combined the Cheerful Kittens Etched Dies along with the Big Bicycle Etched Dies. My card measures at 8.5” x 5.5”. Once again, I die cut all my pieces from colored card stock and then adhered them together after adding some quick shading with Distress Inks.
I added a few floral pieces to my bike and then stamped my sentiment onto the label that I had cut out using the label dies that come in the Cheerful Kittens Etched Die Set.
I hope you enjoyed my cards today! Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by.
Rachel
