Mini Slimnline Trio Featuring Copperplate Holiday Sentiments
Hello there, Michelle Short here and I am delighted to be back on the Spellbinders blog today sharing three cards using the Copperplate Holiday Sentiments Collection by Paul Antonio. These beautiful script sentiments can be used in lots of different ways, and I love that they are large, so take center stage on the cards! These are Press Plates but can be foiled too, as you will see from my cards.
I decided to make mini slimline cards today (3.5” x 6”) as I felt the sentiments fitted well with that design, but they work perfectly for all shapes and sizes of cards too!
MERRY CHRISTMAS
For my first card, I foiled the sentiment and combined it with dies from the Home for the Holidays Collection.
To make this card:
- Take a 3.5” x 6” panel of Cosmic Sky Cardstock.
- Cut Champagne Foil to size and place over panel (shiny side up).
- Place Copperplate Merry Christmas Press Plate on top (design side down). Hold plate and foil in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
- Hot foil using Glimmer Hot Foil System and Platinum Six.
- Remove foil and plate from panel.
- Using Blending Brushes, blend Cosmic Sky and BetterPress Black Inks around the edges of the panel.
- Die-cut Candy Canes and Holly Etched Dies from Snowdrift, Poppy Field, Peridot, and Fern
- Adhere die cuts together with Bearly Art Glue and adhered to panel using thin foam tape.
- Cut excess from the edges using Pro Shears.
- Adhere panel to card base using tape runner adhesive.
- Apply Christmas Red Stickles to berries.
- Embellish card with Gold Mix Color Essentials Gems.
TIP: Most inks resist hot foil, but if you do have any excess ink on the foil, remove it with a soft dry cloth.
JOY TO THE WORLD
My next card uses the BetterPress Letterpress System for the sentiment to create a simple but elegant card.
To make this card:
- Place Copperplate Joy to the World Press Plate onto the Chase (I did this sideways to accommodate the mini slimline size of the card).
- Adhere Porcelain BetterPress A7 Cotton Card Panel onto Platen and hold down at the corners using Best Ever Craft Tape.
- Ink up press plate using Betterpress Black Ink.
- Place Platen on top and run through Platinum Six.
TIP: Every die-cutting machine is different, so find out what works best for you. For my machine, I like to remove one of the shims from under the Chase to get a better/cleaner-pressed impression.
- Remove cardstock from platen and cut down to 3.25” x 6” using Guillotine Paper Trimmer.
- Adhere panel to card base made from Poppy Field Cardstock with thin foam tape.
- Die cut bird, holly and foliage from Christmas Bird & Poinsettia Etched Dies set using Snowdrift, Poppy Field, Beeswax, Fern, Peridot, and Cosmic Sky
- Adhere bird together using Bearly Art Glue, adding a black pearl for his eye.
- Adhere foliage to card using Bearly Art Glue and then adhere bird on top with thin foam tape.
- To finish, embellish with Opal Color Essentials Gems.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
For my last project, I foiled the sentiment again, but this time die cut it into a shape before adhering to my card. This is a great way to make sure that the sentiment is the focus of the card.
To make this card:
- Hot foil Copperplate Happy Holiday Press Plate onto Poppy Field Cardstock using White Foil.
- Die-cut sentiment using Essential Modern Ovals Etched Dies.
- Using Blending Brushes, carefully blend red ink around the edges, followed by BetterPress Black (just to the very edges to darken them up).
TIP: Whereas usually foil resists ink, white foil tends to hold onto the ink, so try and avoid adding ink near it where possible!
- Add the same ink blending to the outside edges of the front panel of the card base made from Poppy Field Cardstock.
- Adhere sentiment panel on top with thin foam tape.
- Die cut poinsettias from Poppy Field Cardstock, the centers from Snowdrift Cardstock, the holly leaves from vellum, and the foliage from Fern Cardstock (from the Christmas Bird and Poinsettia Etched Dies set).
- Die cut flowers from the Poinsettia Spray Etched Dies set from Cosmic Sky and Snowdrift
- Adhere flowers and foliage to card using Bearly Art Glue and thin foam tape, cutting the excess from the edges using Pro Shears.
- To finish, embellish with Opal Color Essentials Gems.
Whilst I do not make that many mini slimline cards, these were fun to make and I think the size works really well for these sentiments. Thank you so much for stopping by today. Wishing you a wonderful day!
