BetterPress,  Cardmaking,  Die Cutting

Non-Traditional Christmas in July

Hi everyone, Ilina Crouse here, and I am thrilled to be on the Spellbinders blog. My favorite season for crafting and cardmaking is Christmas and I am thrilled to be working with the Home for the Holidays collection in the middle of super-hot July.

There are so many amazing products in the Home for the Holidays collection that I had such a hard time choosing. Once I made my decision for the product I picked a color scheme and decided to go with a non-traditional palette. For the main colors I chose pinks, aquas, pale grays, greens, and accents of gold, but added other colors as I saw fit.

Poinsettia Joy Card

For this card, I decided to use pink poinsettia flowers and some peach and aqua-colored flowers. To make the card start by die-cutting the elements from the Poinsettia Spray set and assemble the spring with all the flowers on it and set it aside.

Next cut one of the Emerald Cut Labels from white cardstock and adhered the assemble poinsettia spray. Die cut Joy from the Holiday Greetings set from gold cardstock and added it to a vellum shadow then added to the label.

Once the label was completed, move to the background. Using Fog cardstock and Sprinkled Confetti Press plate foil background using white foil. Trim the background to 4” x 5 ¼” and assemble the card using foam tape or foam squares to add dimension. Add embellishments of your choice to finish it off.

Joy to You and Yours card

I am in love with the BetterPress system and also with the press plates that allow you to add different colors thanks to the registration templates, so of course I had to use the Color Mix Joy Registration press plate. I used to press the JOY in red, aqua, and green inks. Once pressed fussy cut the word.

Press the supporting sentiments using black ink and cut them into strips using your paper trimmer.

Next, for the background, I used pale gray cardstock and Starshine Background Etched die to add some texture to it for more interest.

Once the background panel was die cut, using foam tape add the cut JOY and supporting sentiments. Next, use the older Christmas Blooms Etched Dies to add some florals and greenery.

To finish off the card adhere the panel to a note card and add embellishments of your choice.

Merry and Bright Card

Same as the above card, I had to use also the Color Mix Merry Registration Press Plate set. After choosing your color palette press the 5 letters and fussy cut the MERRY. Press “& Bright” supporting sentiment using black ink, and die-cut it. Set aside.

Using the Sprinkled Confetti Press plate and white pigment ink press it on green cardstock. Once the pigment ink is dry cut the panel to 4” x 5 ¼” and adhere MERRY and the supporting sentiment.

Die cut elements from the Christmas Spring etched dies and assemble them. Adhere around the MERRY to add some interest. Add gold half-back pearls and adhere the panel to a white note card.

Jingle All the Way Reindeer

For my last card I again used a Press plate, but this time I used the Dashing Reindeer Registration Press plate. Press the deer using brown ink and the scarf using Teal Topaz and Cruise inks. Once pressed die cut it and set aside.

Press one set of sentiments from the new Mistletoe Greetings Press Plate and Dies using Teal Topaz ink and die cut using the coordinating dies.

Cut flowers and leaves from the Poinsettia Spray Etched die set. Assemble and set aside.

Now, it’s time to create the background. Using Waterfall cardstock and Sprinkled Confetti Press plate foil background using white foil. Trim the background to 4” x 5 ¼” and assemble the card using foam tape or foam squares to add dimension. Add embellishments of your choice to finish it off.
