Creating Christmas Cards with the Simon Hurley Christmas Collection
Hi, it’s Marie here from the blog and YouTube channel, Marie Nicole Designs. I’m excited to be sharing three cards I created using stamps from the new Simon Hurley Christmas Collection. These cards are fairly simple to create, and they will be perfect to send out in this upcoming holiday season.
I made two cards with a glimmered background I added with a Simon Hurley Glimmer plate I have. I think the pattern looks like snowflakes so it fit well with the snowmen! The last card I made is simply using the stamped image along with a sentiment and some ink-blended colors.
Let’s take a look!
SIMPLY SNOWMEN
I started my cards by stamping out the images from the Sketched Snowmen stamp set. These are so cute! I used some hybrid ink so that it wouldn’t smear while I added color.
For the color, I used my watercolor brush markers and a water brush. These snowmen didn’t need a lot of coloring, but I did add some light blue to their bodies, and then color to their hats, scarves, and other areas that needed color.
After the images were colored, I cut them out using the coordinating dies. I absolutely LOVE having dies to cut my images. I’m not a fan of fussy cutting but I’ll do it when needed. After I had the images colored and cut, I set them aside to work on the other pieces for my card.
The backgrounds for my snowmen cards are created using the Geo Snowflakes Glimmer Plate. I added some light blue and silver foil. I think this plate looks great with these cute snowmen!
I also used a lot of foam adhesive between layers so that I could add a lot of dimension. The sentiments on both cards are stamped, and the second card I have the sentiment stamped and embossed in black on a piece of vellum.
I added some circle sequins around the skiing snowman to add to the look of snow flying up around him.
SECRET SANTA
My last card for today’s post is a little fun and playful, but also very simple. I used this Santa image from the Sketched Santas stamp set along with the sentiment, “From Your Secret Santa”. I imagined this card as part of a secret Santa gift.
I first masked off a strip of cardstock using some low-tack tape. Then, I also masked off some rectangle areas for my ink. I used a combination of greens and reds and alternated the colors to create the strip of color blocks in the background.
I imagined the Secret Santa peeking up from the bottom of the card, so I stamped him using black ink from the arms up. You can just see the gift he’s holding which I think is a cute effect to go with the sentiment, which I stamped on the white area of cardstock just under the ink-blended color blocks.
I then popped this card front up on adhesive and added it to the card base. Done!
