Colorful Cards for All Occasions using Stampendous Beautiful Backgrounds

Hi friends! Jen Shults with you today on the Spellbinders Blog and I am so excited to be sharing three projects with you using the new Stampendous Beautiful Backgrounds. This collection features four beautiful backgrounds that can be used to make super quick cards or more detailed colorful creations where the background is the star and I have a little of both to share with you today! You can mix and match these backgrounds and techniques for endless cards!

My first card focuses on the Streamers background and it was definitely a fun one to make and would be easy to mass-produce if you need lots of birthday cards.

  • Stamps the Streamers background on white cardstock applying ink in rainbow order from left to right using mini ink cubes. Use blending brushes or daubers to soften the seams.
  • Using the same ink and a gentle hand ink blend a softer shade of ink in stripes down the panel. Trim to 3.75” x 5”. Adhere to a white card base with foam tape.

  • Die cut the two largest solid balloons from Color Block Balloons from lavender and turquoise glitter cardstock. Cut the shine and strings from white cardstock and assemble.
  • Foil the Just Wanted to Say Glimmer Hot Foil Plate with Black Glimmer Foil and trim the “Just wanted to say…” and “Have a wonderful birthday” into sentiment strips.
  • Attach the purple balloon to the card base with adhesive and the blue balloon with foam adhesive to pop it up.
  • Add the sentiments with foam strips and a few clear Dimensional Dots for accent.

For my second card, I focused on the Leafy Lines background.

As soon as I saw Leafy Lines I knew I had to color it so I pulled out my Prismacolors and got to work. This took a little time but was so relaxing and gives a great background that really shines.

  • Stamp Leafy Lines on white cardstock with black dye ink and allow to dry. Color the image, blending a variety of greens with Prismacolors and odorless mineral spirits. Trim the panel to 3.75”x5”. Adhere to a white cardbase with foam tape.
  • Wrap twine around the left end of the panel in a wonky pattern.

  • Foil the Just Wanted to Say Glimmer Hot Foil Plate with Black Glimmer Foil and trim the “You are in my thoughts” sentiment into a sentiment strip.
  • Cut a piece of black cardstock to .5”x 5”. Adhere the black strip with foam and adhere the sentiment strip on top with foam.
  • Add a few clear Dimensional Dots for accent.

For my last card, I used Agapanthus and I dug out my watercolors and did a little loose watercoloring before stamping on top for a very quick, reproducible card.

  • Spritz watercolor paper with water. Gently daub colors on the wet paper in a loose rainbow, letting them run and mix gently. When you are happy with how it looks, heat set the panel to dry. Splatter lightly with white and black india ink. Trim to 3.75”x5”.
  • Stamp Agapanthus on top of the watercolor background using black ink. Adhere to a black cardbase.
  • Cut a .5”x3.75” strip of white cardstock and a .375”x3.75” strip of black cardstock. Layer together and adhere to card where you want your sentiment.
