HAVE FUN WITH SNOWFLAKES!
Hello there, Michelle Short here and I am delighted to be back on the Spellbinders blog today sharing three projects using Simon Hurley Let It Snow Collection. This wonderful collection features lots of dies that are perfect for winter, Christmas and the holidays. My three projects all feature snowflakes used in different ways.
MERRY CHRISTMAS PENGUIN
For my first card, I am using the beautiful Frozen Flurries die (which can be used in so many different ways!) as well as Playful Penguins.
To make this card:
- Emboss/deboss Frozen Flurries Etched Dies (without the outside frame) onto a panel of white cardstock using Platinum Six.
- Add ink blending to panel using Blending Brushes and Distress Inks (Mermaid Lagoon, Prize Ribbon, and Seedless Preserves).
- Die cut Color Block Scenic Scape from white cardstock and adhere to the bottom of the panel.
TIP: When embossing/debossing dies, I like to use the following sandwich (bottom to top) – Platform Base, Platform Top, Embossing Mat E, cardstock, die facing down, Adapter Plate D. This seems to work well for me and I always get a lovely impression.
- Die Cut Playful Penguin from Onyx, Snowdrift, Persimmon, Pink Sand, Lilac Blossom, and Peridot Cut the fluffy bits of the hat from white glitter cardstock. Adhere together using Bearly Art Glue.
- Die cut panel of white cardstock using Essential Arches Etched Dies.
- Adhere background panel to A2 sized white card base and added arch panel on top with foam tape.
- Stamp sentiment from Gnome Drive Sentiments Clear Stamp Set onto Onyx Cardstock using Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink. Apply white embossing powder and heat set. Cut into two strips.
- Adhere sentiments and penguin to card with foam tape.
- To finish, add a Prism AB Color Essentials Gem to the center of the bow.
REINDEER PENGUIN TAG
For my next project, I created a tag using Layering Snowflakes and another of the adorable penguins.
To make this tag:
- Die cut the largest of the Layering Snowflakes Etched Dies from white cardstock, cutting each layer twice.
- Adhere one on top of each other for added dimension. With the base/shadow layer, adhere them back-to-back to create a nice place to write a personal message on the back.
- Punch hole through the top.
- Thread twine through and tie in a bow at the front.
- Die-cut Playful Penguin from Onyx, Snowdrift, Pink Sand, Persimmon, Poppy Field and Dune Adhere together using Bearly Art Glue.
- Adhere penguin to tag using thin foam tape.
- Add Christmas Red Stickles to nose.
SNOWFLAKE FLURRIES
For my last project, I used the Frozen Flurries Etched Dies again, but this time in a different way.
To make this card:
- For the background, spray Mermaid Lagoon and Wilted Violet Distress Spray onto a panel of Watercolor Cardstock. Spray with water to blend colors and heat set.
- Spray Wilted Violet Distress Spritz on top and set aside to dry.
- Repeat the process on a separate piece of watercolor cardstock.
- Die cut Frozen Flurries Etched Dies (both dies) from white cardstock.
- Remove snowflakes from panel (and save for a future project!).
- Adhere background to A2 sized white card base and adhere snowflake panel on top with thin foam tape.
- Die-cut shadow pieces of ‘merry’ and ‘Christmas’, from Handwritten Holiday Sentiments Etched Dies, each twice from white cardstock. Adhere together with Bearly Art Glue.
- Die cut the word dies from the extra background piece.
- Adhere to shadow pieces and then onto card with thin foam tape.
- To finish, embellish with Spectrum AB Color Essentials Gems.
This is such a fun collection and I adore those penguins! There is another in the set that I didn’t use today but I will be sure to create with him soon! Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope you have a wonderful day!
