Hello there Spellbinders friends! It’s Lisa Tilson here today and I am thrilled to be sharing a couple of ideas for Day 5 of the 12 Days Of Stitchmas with you! Day 5 is a set of dies that create a star; you have an outline die that cuts the star shape which has a decorative edge. You also get five dies which cut the stitching pieces. The stitching element of this set is very simple and you can of course use a star for many occasions throughout the year so this is a set that is not just for Christmas!

Shine Bright
For my first card, I am using only items from the kit and I started off by die-cutting the star shape twice from the white card (Snowdrift) in the Stitch Along Kit. I then die-cut the stitching pieces also from white. There are five dies for the stitching and I cut them twice. When stitching I often like to double up the stitching pieces so they are thicker and more stable to handle. I didn’t need to cut the star twice, but again, I like the extra stability that a double layer provides. It’s a personal choice for sure!
I then took the Gold Diamant thread from the Stitch Along Kit and stitched each section, securing the ends at the back with Best Ever Craft Tape. I doubled the thread so that there are two strands for my stitching. Each section was then adhered onto the star using Bearly Art Glue.
Next, I took a piece of printer paper and cut it to 5.5” wide. The height doesn’t matter quite so much but it needs to be over 1.5” just to make it easier to handle. I popped some double-sided tape onto it and then set it to one side. I then took the red, teal, white and gold cardstock from the Stitch Along Kit and cut A2 panels (4.25” x 5.5”) from each. Using the Guillotine Paper Trimmer, I trimmed 1/8th of an inch strips from the longest edge (5.5”) of each panel. I then peeled the backing tape off the double-sided tape and adhered the strips to it. This was then glued onto a panel of Snowdrift cardstock which measured 4-1/8th” x 5-3/8th”, so just slightly less than a standard A2 panel. I cut off the excess from each side and then added some foam tape onto the back of the panel. This was popped onto an A2 note card that I created from Snowdrift Color Essentials Cardstock. The star was adhered on top with Bearly Art Glue.
The sentiment is from the clear stamp set included in the kit. I stamped it using Versamark Ink onto the red card, also included in the kit. I applied detail white embossing powder and heat set before trimming it down with the Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I put a little foam tape onto the back and added it across the centre of the star.
A few Fashion Oyster Pearls from the kit were then added to finish the card.
Christmas Blessings/Joy To The World
For my second card, I die-cut the star shape twice from the gold card included in the Stitch Along Kit. As I did for my first card, I then die-cut ten stitching pieces from white. I adhered them together for stability. For this card, I wanted to use a variegated thread so I selected the red/pink option from the threads included in the kit.
I cut a long piece of thread and then separated out two strands from it. I pretty much always stitch using two strands of thread. The end was secured at the back of the stitching piece with Best Ever Craft Tape and then I began the stitching. When my thread came to an end, I simply cut another piece of thread making sure I started my next stitching piece with thread that matched the last. I carried on until all five stitching pieces were done and I then adhered them to the star using Bearly Art Glue, making sure that the darkest star segment was at the top. I love how the color changes as you go around the star! Variegated threads work really well when you can see a clear progression of color.
A double layer of foam tape was added to the back of the star and it was popped onto an A2 panel of Snowdrift Color Essentials Cardstock. I then picked out the Christmas Bird Poinsettia Etched Dies and I die cut the foliage dies from white and teal card (from the kit) and Waterfall Color Essentials Cardstock. The foliage was adhered behind the star using Bearly Art Glue.
I foiled two sentiments from A Merry Little Christmas Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and Die Set using Champagne Glimmer Hot Foil and the Glimmer Hot Foil System. They were then added to my card using thin foam tape. I added the panel onto a top folding A2 notecard and then finished by adding some Gold Mix Color Essential Gems onto the star and around the foliage.
I hope that you have enjoyed seeing my two cards today and that they give you some inspiration for using this fabulous Advent Calendar and Stitch Along Kit. If you would like to see more of my cards, I would love to have you join me over on my blog, Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube. In the meantime, thank you so much for joining me here on the blog today.
