Sealed in Blue and Red for Christmas!
Hi friends! Emily Midgett here with you today from Sixth Street Sundries, and today I am sharing some inspiration using the luscious new Sealed 3D Christmas collection from Spellbinders! This new collection is so beautiful and creates some super pretty holiday cards and the sweetest gift box using the new Ribbon Box die. I am a pushover for gift-giving supplies, and so this new box die was definitely my favorite product from this new collection. I have a trio of projects to share with you today using a somewhat unconventional color palette, so let’s get started with the details!
For all of my projects, I kept things saturated with color, combining the beautiful Crimson and Cloudy Sky cardstocks from Spellbinders with some other smoky blue, deep, jewel-toned red, and shiny silver elements to create a cohesive trio of handmade goodies.
For my first project, I kept things monochromatic, taking my cues from the beautiful Smokey Blue wax seal beads.
- Melt Smokey Blue wax seal beads using the Wax Seal Starter Kit, drop on the silicone mat in a circular motion, then place the Christmas Ornament Wax Seal in the center of the melted wax. Allow the wax to harden completely before removing the seal.
- Once your wax seal has hardened completely, use a silver paint marker to add shimmering details to the image.
- Using Coastal Better Press Ink, ink up the polygon Label Silhouettes Press Plate and the Sealed Poinsettia Stems Press Plate and run through your Platinum 6 with some Porcelain letterpress cardstock.
- Fussy cut both the label image and the poinsettia stem bouquet using sharp scissors.
- For the card base, cut a panel of Partly Cloudy cardstock down to A2 size, then use the largest die from the Emerald Cut Labels and Tag dies to die-cut the large label shape and add some texture.
- Add the letterpressed label shape to the card front with liquid adhesive and the poinsettia bouquet with foam adhesive.
- Before adding the wax seal, wrap silver twine around the Emerald Cut die cut and letterpressed images, tying in a bow over the poinsettia bouquet.
- Add the wax seal over the twine bow, allowing the loops of the bow to peek out from either side of the wax seal.
- Adhere the octagonal die cut to an A2 silver foil card front.
- Tuck a silver hot foiled greeting from Sealed Poinsettia Stems next to the bouquet and add some Prism AB gems for added sparkle!
For my next project, I created a “color-drenched” gift box using the new Ribbon Box die and Crimson cardstock.
- Die cut the Ribbon Box die twice from Crimson cardstock. Assemble using strong adhesive. (I personally like super strong double-sided tape.)
- Measure squares of cardstock to fit the flat sides of the assembled box, approximately 2.5” square.
- Next, run the cardstock squares through your Platinum 6 using the Holly & Foliage 3D Embossing Folder. Blend Cabernet ink from Simon Says Stamp around the edges of the embossed squares to add extra texture and another layer of color on the “color-drenched” gift box.
- Adhere the embossed panels to the sides of the gift box with strong adhesive.
- To embellish the gift box, create a wax seal using the Vibrant Red wax beads and the Evergreen Joy Wax Seal, and embellish the letters with a silver paint pen when hardened.
- Using the Glimmer machine, hot foil the Sealed Poinsettia Stems Press Plate bouquet onto Crimson cardstock using Red hot foil. Die cut a tag from the foiled area using the small tag die from the Emerald Cut Labels and Tag dies.
- Add the emebllished wax seal to the base of the foiled tag die cut and add a loop using Vivant Bordeaux thin ribbon. Add the tag to the gift box handles.
- Close the gift box using Warm Red satin ribbon from Vivant by running the ribbon through the opening beneath the handles on the gift box.
For my final project, I decided to combine the Partly Cloudy and Crimson cardstock colors to create a unique holiday card with lots of shine and texture!
- Using the leftover foil panel from the Poinsettia Stems hot foiled tag from the gift box project, hot foil the Label Silhouettes elongated oval plate onto some clear acetate, then use sharp scissors to fussy cut the image. The super smooth acetate allows for practically perfect hot foiling of this solid image!
- Create another red wax seal using the Poinsettia Bouquet wax seal and Vibrant Red wax beads, then add details with the silver paint pen.
- Create a holiday greeting using the Sending Joy Sentiments product suite by pressing the Season’s Greetings sentiment onto Porcelain letterpress paper using Coastal Better Press ink, then die cut with the coordinating die.
- Adhere the hot foiled solid oval image to an A2 Partly Cloudy card front using small dots of liquid adhesive on the solid areas of the hot foiled image. The blue cardstock will shine through the clear-lined areas, providing unique contrast on the super shiny image.
- Add the wax seal to the side of the hot foiled acetate piece using foam adhesive and add the sentiment die cut with a double layer of foam adhesive to allow it to stand out from the background.
- Embellish the edges of the foiled, patterned oval with floral die cuts from the Holiday Blooms die set created using Crimson, Indigo, and silver foil cardstock, adhering them with a mixture of foam adhesive squares and liquid adhesive.
- Finally, embellish the card front with a silver twine bow and some Prism AB gems for added sparkle.
Well, that’s all for my projects today! Thanks very much to Spellbinders for the opportunity to work with these beautiful new products. I love new Christmas goodies!!
