Let’s Create Some Pretty Packaging!
Hello there, Michelle Short here and I am delighted to be back on the Spellbinders blog using the Sealed 3D Christmas Collection. This beautiful collection features two press plates, a box die, 3 wax seal stamps and lots of beautiful wax beads!
I thought for my blog post today that I would focus on creating pretty packaging. I love gift-giving and making things look pretty, so for today, I have some boxes, tags, and envelopes to share with you.
RED & GOLD CHRISTMAS
For my first project, I created a box using the new Ribbon Box Etched Dies. Not only is this box beautiful, but it is also really easy to put together! You just cut the die twice, fold along the scoring lines, add adhesive and adhere the two pieces together, securing at the bottom.
To make this box:
- Die cut Ribbon Box Etched Die twice from Snowdrift Cardstock.
- Assemble and adhere using double-sided tape or adhesive of choice.
- Thread Vivant Warm Red Ribbon around the box and secure in place at the front with a bow.
- Thread Vivant Circle Gold Metallic Cord through the bow twice and cut off at either end to add some shine!
TIP: I do find it easier to cut boxes from a slightly thinner weight cardstock (80lb) but this die scores really well even on thicker cardstock (100lb). For best results, fold score lines with a bone folder.
- Hot Foil sentiment from Sealed Poinsettia Stems Press Plate & Die Set onto Crimson Cardstock using Champagne Foil.
- Cut into tag (Assorted Tags Etched Dies) and secure to bow with more Circle Gold Metallic Cord.
- Create wax seal using the Wax Seal Starter Kit: melt Candy Apple Wax Beads in the spoon placed on the wax bead warmer. Once melted, pour onto the silicon mat and place Poinsettia 3D Wax Seal on top and wait for a minute or so. Once cool, remove from mat.
- Adhere wax seal to box using double-sided tape.
I wanted to create a coordinating tag to go with the box. I thought it would work well on a separate gift or could be added to a card.
To make the tag:
- Hot foil floral image from Sealed Poinsettia Stems Press Plate & Die Set onto Crimson Cardstock using Champagne Foil.
- Cut panel down using Guillotine Paper Trimmer (2.5” x 4”) and cut top edge using 3-in-1 Tag Punch.
- Blend red and black ink around the edges of the tag using Blending Brushes.
- Thread DMC Light Gold Diamant Grande Thread through the top of the tag and tie in a bow.
- Create wax seal in the same way as the box, but this time use the Evergreen Joy 3D Wax Seal.
- Carefully paint the ‘joy’ letters using DecoColor Gold Metallic Marker.
- Once dry, adhere to tag using Wax Seal Adhesive Circle.
HALLOWEEN
The wax seals in the collection are Christmas themed, however, the Boo! 3D Wax Seal from the Happy Haunting Collection works perfectly with the new Halloween Must-Have Bead Mix, so I had to have a play and create a box and envelope.
To make this box:
- Die cut Ribbon Box Etched Die twice from Brushed Black Cardstock.
- Assemble and adhere using double-sided tape or adhesive of choice.
- Thread orange ribbon around the box and secure in place at the front with a bow.
- Die cut tag from Brushed Black Cardstock and adhere strips of Persimmon, Royal Amethyst, and Peridot Cardstock on top. Cut excess from the edges with Shears.
- Create wax seal using the new (super fun) Glow-in-the-Dark Wax Beads (in the Halloween Mix or sold separately) and the Boo! 3D Wax Seal.
- Adhere to tag and tie tag to ribbon using black twine.
I was having fun creating wax seals, so I thought I would try a two-tone one. There are different methods to do this but here is how I made it:
- Melt Pearl White Wax Beads (I used 5), once melted, pour onto a silicone mat and place Boo! 3D Wax Seal on top. Leave to cool for a couple of minutes.
- Cut around the ghost image using Detail Scissors.
- Heat up wax seal a little and place ghost back inside recessed area.
- Melt Twilight Purple Wax Beads (I used 5), once melted, pour onto silicone mat and place wax seal on top. Since the ghost part is already in the wax seal, it does not place down as low on the wax as it usually would but leave it place to cool so that the purple wax melts around the white.
I then adhered the wax seal to a Brushed Black Envelope for a fun finishing touch to a card I will send.
BLUE & GOLD CHRISTMAS
I do love the traditional red at Christmas, but I also love blue too. Blue pairs perfectly with silver for a frosty look but also gold for a more elegant look. I opted for gold today!
I was having so much fun creating boxes that I needed to make another but this time with 3D embossing.
To make this box:
- Die cut Ribbon Box Etched Die twice from Snowdrift Cardstock.
- Place inside Flurry of Snowflakes 3D Embossing Folder and run through Platinum Six.
- Assemble and adhere box using double-sided tape or adhesive of choice.
- Thread Vivant Dark Blue Ribbon around the box and secure in place at the front with a bow.
- Thread Vivant Circle Gold Metallic Cord through the bow twice.
- Create wax seal using Pearl White Wax Beads and the Evergreen Joy 3D Wax Seal.
- Carefully paint the ‘joy’ letters using DecoColor Gold Metallic Marker.
- Once dry, adhere to box using double-sided tape.
I wanted to create a coordinating tag to go with the box again but this time, I thought it would work well as either a tag or as an ornament.
To make this tag:
- Die cut snowflake from Snowdrift Cardstock three times. Adhere one on top of another for dimension.
- Adhere a loop of DMC Light Gold Diamant Grande Thread at the top, securing at the back with double-sided adhesive.
- Die cut base of snowflake from Cosmic Sky Cardstock and adhere to the back of the white snowflake, sandwiching the thread in between.
- Create wax seal using Glitz Gold Wax Beads and the Evergreen Joy 3D Wax Seal.
- Adhere to the middle of the snowflake using Wax Seal Adhesive Circle.
- Tie a small bow using DMC Light Gold Diamant Grande Thread and adhere to the top where the bottom of the loop is, using a small dab of Bearly Art Glue.
Last but not least, I wanted to create a matching envelope for the set too. This time with embossing on to match the box.
To make this envelope:
- Place flap of A2 white envelope inside Flurry of Snowflakes 3D Embossing Folder and run through Platinum Six.
- Create wax seal using Blue Smoke Wax Beads and the Christmas Ornament 3D Wax Seal.
- Adhere to envelope using double-sided tape.
I had so much fun creating this packaging! Whilst I love making cards, it was nice to make something different and use all the lovely new colours of wax beads. There are a few other colours that have been released that I didn’t use on my projects but hopefully I will get to use them soon! Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope you have a wonderful day!
