Using a Single Color Palette to Create Three Cards!
Hi crafty friends! It’s Cassie Trask back with another blog post where I’m going to share a few cards using the new Falling Leaves Collection. It may be in the 90s here in South Georgia, but I am very ready for Fall, and a Fall color palette is where it’s at!
A Rainy Fall Background
Fall often brings about some rain, which is why I like this Autumn Rain BetterPress Plate. It’s such a pretty plate that gives you the opportunity to use lots of color especially when you use the Layered Autumn Rain Stencil. For all of my cards I brought in the Thanks Enclosed Sentiments dies, because they just went so well.
- Ink up your Autumn Rain BetterPress Plate using the French Blue ink from the Nature Tones BetterPress Ink set and press it onto some Porcelain Cotton BetterPress paper using your BetterPress System.
- Using the Layered Autumn Rain Stencil, ink up your background with various distress ink colors. I chose Fired Brick for the leaves, Mustard Seed and Rusty Hinge for the umbrella, and Black Soot for the umbrella handles.
- Die cut your sentiment from Snowdrift and Persimmon
- Using your Wax Seal Starter Kit and some Pearl White Wax Beads, make a wax seal using the Falling Raindrops Wax Seal Stamp. Colored the raised portions with a Gold DecoColor Pen.
- Wrap some black thread several times around your panel, attach your wax seal and your sentiment.
- Assemble your card.
A Simple 3D Embossed Fall Card
I think I’m slightly obsessed with the new Oak Forest 3D Embossing Folder. From the cute little acorns to the whimsical leaves, it just makes me smile.
- Grab a panel of Tuscan cardstock and ink up the inside of the Oak Forest 3D Embossing Folder with some dark orange ink (the side with the Spellbinders logo on it). Spritz the ink with water and emboss your panel.
- Rub the raised portion of the embossed panel with a dark brown ink.
- Die cut your sentiment from some Snowdrift cardstock and some Timber
- Assemble your card onto a Partly Cloudy cardstock base.
Adding Detail to your 3D Embossed Backgrounds
This card might be my favorite as it was a bit of a happy accident! When I looked at my background that I had just embossed I wondered what it look like to add little details with some Distress Watercolor Pencils. It turns out that it looks pretty great on these very detailed embossed backgrounds.
- I started by inking up my Oak Forest folder with some light blue ink onto some Snowdrift cardstock. This was inked up just like I had for my previous card. It hit the edges of the embossed images and I really liked it.
- Using some Distress Watercolor Pencils of your choosing, add small details.
- Using a small waterbrush with very little water, activate the watercolor pencils to soften the pencil lines just a bit.
- Die cut the sentiment with Snowdrift and Persimmon
- Using your Wax Seal Starter Kit and some Cloudy Sky Wax Beads, make a wax seal using the Pumpkin Trio 3D Wax Seal Stamp. Colored the raised portions with a Gold DecoColor Pen.
- Like the first card, wrap some black thread several times around your panel, attach your wax seal and your sentiment.
- Assemble your card onto a Partly Cloudy cardstock base.
I really had the most fun making these cards from the Falling Leaves line, and it has me even more ready for sweaters, blankets, bonfires. I hope you enjoyed this post and that you’ll look for me over on Instagram as CassieTCards.
