Emboss Like A Boss and Add Pretty Floral Accents
Hello there, Lisa Tilson here with you today on the Spellbinders blog. I’m so excited to share three ideas using the Beveled Sentiments A2 Cardfronts Collection. There are four 3D embossing folders in this release – Happy Birthday, Thanks, Hello, and A Gift For You. I really like the crisp, clean, and modern style of these folders. As the sentiments are big and bold, they take centre stage and look great even with just some simple ink blending but I went a slightly different way with my cards today.
From Me To You
My first card uses the Beveled Hello A2 Cardfront 3D Embossing Folder and I decorated it with some oh-so-pretty die cut flowers.
I started off by embossing the folder and as I always do with embossing folders, I spritzed my card with water before running it through my machine. This really helps to soften the cardstock and prevent cracking. So, I spritzed each side twice from about a foot away. I then popped the white card into the embossing folder and ran it through my Platinum 6 Die Cutting Machine twice. I also used an extra paper shim just to make sure I got a really deep impression but you would need to experiment here to see what works best with your machine.
I set that to the side and started die-cutting the flowers. I used the Floral Spray Etched Dies and I cut them from Splash, Island Blue, Cosmic Sky, Beeswax, Saffron, and Peridot Color Essentials Cardstock. I assembled them using Bearly Art Glue and then started to temporarily position them around the embossed sentiment. It almost always takes me a while to finalize this part of a design and I make sure I die cut more than I think I will need. You never know if you may need an extra small leaf or flower to help balance the design!
I then adhered the flowers and leaves onto the embossed panel using a mix of foam tape and wet adhesive.
I thought I would add a sub-sentiment to the card for a little pop of black and white. So, I took A Little Hello Sentiments Clear Stamp and Die Set and stamped the group of sentiments onto Onyx card using Versamark Ink. I applied white embossing powder and heat set them before cutting them out with the matching die. I then added the “From Me To You” sentiment onto the panel using a double layer of foam tape.
I popped the card onto a top folding A2 note card (11” x 4.25”, scored at 5.5”) and added some Fashion Oyster Color Essentials Pearl Dots into the centres of the flowers as well as around the card.
Thank You
Of course, I had to do a bit of foiling on my next card. I was late to the foiling party and only got my machine a few years ago. It sits permanently on my desk, right in front of me, and I never waste an opportunity to use it! So, I thought I would combine some foiling with one of the embossing folders.
I started off by taking an A2 (4.25” x 5.5”) panel of Island Blue Color Essentials Cardstock and the Glimmer Bouquet Hot Foil Plate and Die Set. Using Cobalt Blue Glimmer Hot Foil I foiled the plate onto both corners of the panel. I’m pretty sure this is my first time using this colour of foil and it’s BEAUTIFUL!
I then spritzed the foiled panel with water and ran it through my die-cutting machine with the Beveled Thanks A2 Cardfront 3D Embossing Folder. Once again, I used an extra paper shim and ran it through twice.
Following that, I trimmed the panel down a little at the bottom and mounted it onto an A2 piece of Cosmic Sky card just to give it a bit more interest as this is a pretty simple card.
Next, I foiled a sentiment from Mini Everyday Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and Die Set. I took the “thank you” and foiled it with Cobalt Blue foil onto Splash card and I trimmed it down using the sentiment strip banner in the set. It was added across the lower foiled flower with some foam tape.
The panel was then added on to a top folding A2 white note card and I added some Capri Blue Color Essential Gems to finish.
Happy Birthday
For my third card, I started off by running the Beveled Happy Birthday A2 Cardfront 3D Embossing Folder through my machine with some Cosmic Sky Color Essentials Cardstock. I thought it would be nice to add some flowers to the sides but this time, rather than just die cut the flowers, I did a little bit of Copic marker colouring.
The embossed panel was set to one side and I then reached for my Peony Celebration Etched Dies. I cut the shadow die from the vellum and then added some double-sided adhesive sheet to two panels of white card. As the adhesive sheet is quite thick it generally tends to keep all the pieces intact when die-cutting which is really helpful if you want to color.
I used Copic Markers Y08 and Y13 for the yellow flowers and B04, B02, and B00 for the blue. I didn’t worry about coloring over the outline section of the die cut as I would be removing all the colored pieces and inlaying them into a clean white frame.
So, once I finished the coloring, I added some adhesive sheet onto two more pieces of white card and then ran them through my machine with the outline die. I popped out all the petals and adhered the outline die cut onto the shadow. I then inlaid all of my Copic-colored petals before trimming off any excess from the side.
I finished by adding some Silver Mix Color Essential Gems and adhering the whole panel onto an A2 white heavyweight note card.
That finishes my cards for today. I hope that you have enjoyed seeing these ideas and that they give you some inspiration for using this classy collection of folders. If you would like to see more of my cards, I would love to have you join me over on my blog, Instagram, Facebook or YouTube. In the meantime, thank you so much for joining me here on the blog today. I hope that you have a great day!
