Three Ways to Use the Amaryllis Christmas Collection by Yana Smakula

Hello, crafty friends! This is Emily Leiphart and I’m thrilled to be back on the Spellbinders blog, featuring the stunning Amaryllis Christmas Collection by Yana Smakula. I always get excited when Yana releases a new collection and I knew this was going to be another must-have. I don’t know a lot about plants but I do love learning about flowers every time there’s a new collection. For instance, I didn’t know that Amaryllis came in so many different colors! That, of course, made it easy for me to select a color palette for these cards.

I had so much fun creating with all the products in this collection and even with the same color palette, I could’ve kept going for days on end if life didn’t keep interrupting me! I’m sure many of you feel the same way when you’re in the crafty zone. LOL

My first card features the Festive Poinsettias BetterPress and Stencil Bundle. Wow, does it ever make an impact! I inked up the plate using Passion Fruit ink and pressed it onto a Porcelain BetterPress A2 Cotton Card Panel. Next, I used the six stencil layers to ink blend the images.

To ink up the poinsettias, I used Cupcake, Strawberry Milkshake, and Rose Petals inks. The berries feature Sunflower ink, the small leafy branches were inked up with Artichoke, the holly leaves were inked up with a combination of Lemongrass and Avocado, and the pinecones were inked with Mocha.

This second card features the Yana’s Amaryllis Etched Dies and since the first card was so saturated with color, I wanted to provide a clean and simple contrast to show off the beautiful die-cut details. I die-cut the large and small amaryllis using Mirror Gold cardstock, the centers from Snowdrift cardstock, and the leaves from Artichoke cardstock. I placed the white pieces on a grip mat and used Blending Brushes with Lavender Glaze, Rose Petals, and Passion Fruit inks to shade the amaryllis.

Next, I cut the outlines for the amaryllis from vellum and glued all the pieces onto it. I cut the card base using the largest Perfect Touch Rectangle and popped up the pieces with foam squares. I heat-foiled this sentiment with Polished Brass Hot Foil on Mocha cardstock and I selected this particular sentiment for the die cuts because it was shaped like a pot! The dark brown anchors the image on the clean white space.

This last card featuring the Amaryllis Garden 3D Embossing Folder features one of my signature designs where I cut pieces of colored cardstock on an angle, tape them together, and hot foil a large image or add texture using an embossing folder. This one is extra special because it includes a gold wedge, something I’ve never done before but I’ll definitely be doing this more often because it’s so unique and I love the extra shine!

This panel features, from the top down, Passion Fruit, Mirror Gold, Briar Rose, and Lavender Glaze cardstock. I’m absolutely in love with these holiday sentiments from the Home for the Holidays Sentiments. While they’re BetterPress sentiments, you can also use them for heat foiling which I’ve done on all three of these cards. I love the way the coordinating dies cut around the fonts.

The most difficult part of assembling these cards was selecting the right colors for the sentiments. I heat-foiled the sentiments on at least half a dozen colors of cardstock from this palette and it was no easy task selecting the right ones! In the end, I wanted to make sure they were legible so I selected both the lightest and the darkest colors.

I hope you find plenty of inspiration from these cards made with the Amaryllis Christmas Collection by Yana Smakula! It doesn’t matter which product you choose from this beautiful collection. You’re sure to have hours of fun creating.
