Autumn is Upon Us!
Hello there, Michelle Short here and I am delighted to be back on the Spellbinders blog using the Woodland Tales Collection. Autumn/fall is upon is here in the Northern Hemisphere and this Woodland Tales Collection is perfect for the season (but can be used all round too!). Whilst my color palette doesn’t necessarily give autumn vibes, the subject matter does!
EACH DAY IS A GIFT
For my first project, I wanted to use Finley the Fox. I thought that he would look great nestled in an autumn forest background. For me, mushrooms work perfectly for autumn, so I grabbed them and got to work die-cutting!
To make this card:
- Die cut Finley the Fox Etched Dies from white cardstock. Add ink blending to the pieces with inks and blending brushes.
- Assemble the fox, adhering with Bearly Art Glue.
- Die cut mushrooms from Autumn Wonder Etched Dies using white cardstock and add ink blending on top.
- Assemble and adhere using Bearly Art Glue.
- Die cut Woodland Tales Fern Etched Die twice from white cardstock and add ink blending on top.
- Cut ferns so that they are a little shorter and adhere to A2-sized card base made from Onyx Cardstock, using Bearly Art Glue.
- Adhere mushrooms (adding a little thin foam tape behind the tops), followed by Finley the Fox (with foam squares under his body).
- Hot Foil sentiment from Woodland Tales Impressions Press Plate & Die Set onto Onyx Cardstock with Satin Gold Foil.
- Die cut using a coordinating die. Cut the die again twice and adhere to the back of the foiled one for added dimension, before adhering to card.
- To finish, embellish with Woodland Tales Gold-Flecked Gems.
GINGKO LEAVES BOX
For my second project, I wanted to create a little box using one of the beautiful papers in the collection, as well as the Gingko Leaves 3D Wax Seal.
To make this box:
- Die cut Ribbon Box Etched Dies twice using the black and gold ginkgo leaves paper from the Woodland Tales 12” x 12” Paper Pack.
- Assemble and adhere using double-sided tape or adhesive of choice.
- Thread black ribbon around the box and secure in place at the front with a bow.
- Create wax seal using the Wax Seal Starter Kit: melt Black Wax Beads in the spoon placed on the wax bead warmer. Once melted, pour onto the silicon mat and place Gingko Leaves 3D Wax Seal on top and wait for a minute or so. Once cool, remove from mat.
- Die cut Woodland Tales Fern Etched Die from Onyx Cardstock, as well as Gold Assortment Treasured Cardstock and adhere to box using Bearly Art Glue.
- Adhere wax seal on top using a Wax Seal Adhesive Circle.
TIP: When creating wax seals, especially oval-shaped ones, I like to melt more wax than needed. I find it easier to pour that way. Any wax left over can be poured onto the silicone mat and once dry, can be melted again.
HELLO
My last card uses the beautiful Woodland Tales Floral Etched Dies. I am not sure what flower these are made to be, but I decided, although not accurate in shape, to use the colors of a sunflower.
To make this card:
- Die-cut Woodland Tales Floral Etched Dies from white cardstock.
- Add ink blending using inks and blending brushes.
- Create an A2-sized card base from Onyx Cardstock.
- Cut sheet of acetate from Woodland Tales Foiled Acetate & Vellum Pack to 3.5” x 4.75”.
- Adhere flower stem onto the acetate using Bearly Art Glue.
- Adhere flower head (with flower center) on top using thin foam tape.
- Die cut ‘hello’ from Woodland Tales Sentiments Etched Dies from Onyx Cardstock for the shadow (3 times) and Gold Assortment Treasured Cardstock for the word.
- Adhere together and then onto the acetate.
- Add double-sided tape onto the back of the acetate where the elements have been adhered on the front (so that the adhesive is hidden).
- Adhere acetate to card base.
- To finish, embellish with Satin Gold Sequins.
Whilst gold isn’t my go-to color, I really like it paired with black. I created the box first and then following that, that became my color palette for the collection. Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope you have a wonderful day!

What beautiful projects Michelle!! For me, your Finley the Fox card absolutely steals the show – pairing him with the mushrooms was completely unexpected but the result feels like a wonderland!!
Your box is quite the last word in elegance. Absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you for the inspiration!!
