Adding Texture to Scrapbook Layouts Using the Woodland Tales Collection
Hello crafty friends! Suzanna Lee here today to share with you a couple of Fall (or Autumn) layouts that I created with the Woodland Tales! This seasonal collection is available in the Spellbinders shop. While you’re adding that to your cart, be sure to grab some metal dies and Press Plates that accompany the collection, there are so many to choose from!
For my first layout, I was inspired by the metal dies that are a part of the collection, there are four of them. I love the flexibility of make your own embellishments that metal dies provide. You can literally create all kinds of combinations.
A mix of the collections Die Cut Shapes and Sentiments and the embellishments that I made with the etched dies creates a diagonal line across the layout. Each segment, or opposing diagonal corner, of the layout this line of embellishment bisects, is a different patterned paper. I love the gold foil in the maroon paper.
Note that the flowers created with the Floral Etched Dies have been hand colored; I used watercolors to create more depth. The center of each flower is popped up using dimensional dots that allow for a round edge which double-sided foam cannot provide.
There are two wax heads that are a part of this collection, both oval. Ginko leaves and a fern. I had to use the fern as the contrast of the green wax provided for another darker shade that makes the black shadows in the photos less of a stark contrast.
My second layout was inspired by the 3D embossing folder. Rather than use it as is, I fussy cut a few of the flowers and created a visual triangle around a single photo. The photo itself is rather dark so I used a piece of the vellum on ivory cardstock and a torn strip of a patterned paper to tone down the photo. The ivory cardstock stands out from the explosion of Fall colors on both the vellum and in the photo thus providing balance to the page.
Wanting to add some additional depth and texture to the layout, I also used the Impression Press Plate and Die Set to create a few ferns to add to two of the three clusters. I have to admit, I was so impressed (get it im-pressed!) with these ferns! Each is fussy cut as the dies that accompany this are for the sentiments.
Not normally one to put gems on my projects, I had to use these – the gold flecks in them are stunning! And, of course, who can say no to sequins! Both projects have a healthy sprinkling of the Satin Gold Sequins!
