Retro Dance Party – Inspired Cards Featuring Shine Bright Collection by Carissa Wiley

Hello, crafty friends! This is Emily Leiphart and I’m thrilled to be back on the Spellbinders blog, featuring the disco-themed Shine Bright Collection by Carissa Wiley. In my youth, I spent a fair share of my time dancing in nightclubs and going to karaoke bars with friends. It was great exercise and a lot of fun! Carissa’s new collection makes me want to get back on the dance floor, even if that’s just in my house and I’m alone. LOL

When I first saw these products, I immediately thought “SPARKLE”! I’m definitely going to use lots of sparkle on these cards. How could I not? The disco balls inspired a retro color palette of dragonfruit, sweet potato pie, sea glass, juniper, dark chocolate and, of course, silver glitter cardstock.

I was really excited to use this amazing Layered Shine Bright Die & Stencil Bundle. I love abstract perspectives exactly like this one and it elevates a simple design from plain to wow in a few quick steps! I used four of the five layering stencils to create these retro perspective lines and it was easy with the Spellbinders Blending Brushes and a Stencil Mat. The letters for the sentiment are left white so I used the coordinating sentiment dies to cut the letters from both silver glitter and dark chocolate cardstock. I layered them and glued them flat to the card base.

Then I cut two each of the stars from the Disco Balls Cutting Dies and glued them to the card base. The secondary sentiment is from the Shine Bright Sentiment Strips Press Plate & Die Set. Who doesn’t need more birthday cards? I hot foiled this with Espresso Bean Hot Foil on Vellum cardstock and adhered it to the card using vellum adhesive.

Since the first card is flat and on a white card base, I wanted a contrast with my second card. I chose the colour I used the least on that card, dark chocolate, and used it for my card base. I ran the panel through the Stargazer Embossing Folder to give it some texture and, of course, more stars!

I cut all the textured disco balls using the Disco Balls Cutting Dies and arranged them on the embossed panel. Before adhering them, I also cut silver glitter stars from the same die set and arranged them. Finally, I heat embossed a sentiment from the Sparkle On Sentiments Press Plate & Die Set, using Espresso Bean Hot Foil on white cardstock. I also cut a shadow from silver glitter cardstock. All of the layers were then adhered as it, with the disco balls popped up with foam squares.

My third card is the favorite of the bunch and I’m definitely going to have to remake it with different colors! First, I pressed the Disco Impressions Press Plate & Die Set with juniper ink on white cardstock. Then I used the coordinating Layered Disco Impressions Layering Stencils to add the remaining three colours. After cutting them out with the coordinating circle dies, I set them aside.

I selected a sea glass base panel and wanted to add some sparkle using the stars from the Sparkle Background Hot Foil Plate. I hot foiled the stars using Speckled Prism Hot Foil, at which point I popped on the letterpressed disco balls with foam squares. The sentiment is from the Shine Bright Sentiment Strips Press Plate & Die Set and I hot foiled this sentiment using Pewter Hot Foil on white cardstock and added a shadow with dark chocolate cardstock.

I hope you find plenty of inspiration from these cards made with the Shine Bright Collection by Carissa Wiley! This fun and exciting collection will allow you to recollect memories and make new ones while you create.
