Valentine Celebrations with Love on the Rocks
Hey there, crafty friends! Marie here again from Marie Nicole Designs. I’m having fun creating with this new collection, Love On The Rocks. The little tumbler and embellishments are so fun to mix and match with the sentiments for some sweet Valentine’s cards!
I’m also a huge fan of the Better Press plate, My Heart Beats for You. It’s a gorgeous floral design with the heart in the middle that works well for not only a card in itself but as a background which is what I did with today’s cards!
My first card features the little tumbler from the Love on the Rocks die set as a shaker. I cut the tumbler out of white cardstock in the position I wanted my shaker to be. This left an opening just the exact size for a window that I added acetate to and then layered the die-cut tumbler piece on top of.
I then added the drink die-cut piece behind the tumbler with foam adhesive, and filled it with some clear sequins to look like ice and even added a heart in there to shake around!
I glued the stir stick into the tumbler and added the sentiment from the Valentine Happy Hour Sentiments Better Press plate set.
For my next card, I grabbed that Better Press plate, My Heart Beats for You, and pressed it into a piece of black cardstock with some embossing ink. Then, I added black embossing powder to the pressed design and embossed. This left me with a shiny black-on-black design that works beautifully as a background.
Then I cut and added two beautiful gold tumblers to the front with foam adhesive. For these, I filled them with pink drinks and added hearts inside also. Then, I glued the tumbler design over acetate and then over the drink area. This makes it look like a glass filled with hearts! It’s not really a shaker since I didn’t use foam adhesive, but you can still see those hearts “floating” around inside the tumblers.
I then embellished the tumblers with a chocolate-covered strawberry with an arrow through it, and another sentiment from the Better Press sentiment plate.
My third card also features that Better Press plate as a background! This time I pressed it using two hues of pink to give an ombre look in the background.
I cut out the tumbler again but this time out of black cardstock. Then I added the pink liquid behind. I did not add acetate to the tumbler but I did cut ice cubes out of acetate! This gives the cubes the clear look of ice.
Sometimes, when I’m adding elements over a busy background, I like to layer a piece of vellum behind so the background is muted a bit and doesn’t overwhelm the whole card. So I used an oval from a Spellbinders nested set and cut out an oval just the right size to layer the tumbler over.
Then, I just added some more embellishments and another sentiment!
All of the items in this collection are so cute and playful and there are hundreds of ways to mix and match for love-themed or Valentine’s cards! I hope this gives you just a few ideas on how you can use these sets.
