Simon Hurley Everyday-Cards Trio

Hello crafty friends! It’s Rachel Alvarado from RachelAlvaradoDesigns.com. I’m happy to be back on the Spellbinders Blog today sharing some cards that feature new stamps and coordinating die sets illustrated by Simon Hurley.

For my first card, I used the new Everyday Wreaths Stamp Set and the Everyday Wreaths Die Set. I trimmed a piece of Raindrop Color Essentials Card Stock for my A2-sized card base and layered it with a 4” x 5.25” piece of white card stock. Next, I lightly blended a 3.75” x 5” piece of smooth white card stock with Stormy Sky and Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Inks starting with my darker color at the lower left corner of my card stock and blending upward in a diagonal motion to my lighter ink and then fading to white. To create some slight texture, I also added some white spatters of diluted Copic Opaque White Paint.

I then stamped my flowers, butterfly, and wreath onto a sheet of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110lb Card Stock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored them with Copic Markers before cutting them out with their coordinating dies. Lastly, I stamped my sentiment onto my card base where I knew the center of my wreath would align and then added my images with some dimensional foam tape.

Copic Colors Used:

• Reds: R14, R35, R46, R89
• Blues: B00, B12, B24, B29

For my second card, I used the beautiful new Woodland Wildlife Stamp Set and coordinating Woodland Wildlife Die Set. I once again stamped my images onto a sheet of Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock and colored them with Copics prior to cutting them out with their coordinating dies.

Copic Colors Used:

• Deer: E31, E23, E25, E29
• Moose: E41, E42, E43, E44
• Fox: E21, E13, E15, E09, E29
• Reds: R14, R46, R59
• Blues: B12, B24

Next, I lightly blended a smooth piece of 4.25” x 5.5” white card stock with Stormy Sky, Faded Jeans, and Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide. I then added some dots of snow using my paintbrush and more Copic Opaque White Paint. After the drops of paint were dry, I then die cut some white trees using the tree die that comes in the Picture Perfect Autumn Die Set and adhered them to my background with liquid adhesive.

Next, I fussy cut two snow drifts from white card stock and lightly blended the top edge of each with some Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink. I glued the bottom one directly to my card base and then added my front snow drift with some 3D foam adhesive tape to allow it to have some dimension. I then trimmed a piece of pale blue card stock to 4.25” x 5.5” and die cut an arch in the center of is using one of the Essential Arches Etched Dies. Lastly, I stamped my sentiment to my card front with black ink and then adhered the entire piece (as well as my images) to my card base with more 3D foam adhesive tape.

For my last card, I used the Inspired Stamp Set and matching Inspired Etched Dies. I once again stamped my image onto a sheet of Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, colored it with Copic Markers, and cut it out with the coordinating die.

Copic Colors Used:

• Elephant: W00, W1, W3
• Reds: R14, R46, R59
• Blues: B12, B24
• Green: G43
• Browns: E31, E23, E27

For my background, I blended a 3.75” x 5” piece of smooth white card stock with some Tumbled Glass, Stormy Sky, Faded Jeans, and Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide Inks. I added some diluted white and blue ink spatters for added interest and then stamped some paint streaks with a variety of blue/violet inks prior to cutting them out with their coordinating dies. After stamping my sentiment, I then added my paint streaks with 3D foam adhesive strips at a diagonal and then cut off any overhanging excess with a pair of scissors prior to adding the panel to my card base. Lastly, I adhered my elephant to the lower left-hand side of my card and placed a few blue enamel dots to finish it.
