Texture Backgrounds and Spanish Sentiments

Hello Friends! It’s Raquel here again. Today I’m excited to share some easy to make cards with lots of texture. I’ve also used the new Spanish sentiments Betterpress Plate & die set and the Spanish everyday sentiments etched dies, both of them from the International Sentiment collection.

I was born in Spain so and I have to admit I was so happy when I knew these sentiments were released. I adore the font of both the Betterpress sentiments and the dies that come with a shadow die.

For my first project I used the Fresh Picked Buttercups. I wanted to create a simple yet eye-catching design where the flowers and the sentiment were the main focal image.

The Spanish Sentiments dies are the perfect set to create easy sentiments for any type of card so I went ahead and die-cut a bunch of them so I have them ready to use when I need them. Most of the time I use vellum for my shadow, but I find they look awesome even without the shadow die.

  • Die cut the largest leaves cluster of the Fresh Picked Buttercups twice out of a vibrant green cardstock. Then die-cut it again, this time using a pale green cardstock. Use the smaller cluster of leaves with a flower and die-cut it again too using pale green cardstock.
  • Die cut all the flowers from this set several times out of different shades of peach, yellow, and red cardstock. Use green, yellow-pink, and red cardstock to cut out the center of the flowers.
  • Use the Flower and Foliage 3D embossing folder and emboss half of an A2 size notecard twice using white cardstock.
  • Arrange the vibrant green leaves clusters on top of one of the half-embossed backgrounds. Place one cluster on the top and one at the bottom making sure you leave enough space in the center for the sentiment. Foam mount the flowers on top. Glue the green centers of the flowers and adhere small flowers around these clusters.
  • Die cut the word “Felicidades” from the Spanish everyday sentiments etched dies out of Matte Gold cardstock. Die cut three extra white layers out of this same sentiment to create some dimension.
  • For the second card, die cut two frames with the Nested Postage label dies and foam mount them onto the other A2 card: One of them on the top right and the other one on the bottom left.
  • Arrange your flowers onto the frames creating a diagonal image.
  • Cut out the sentiment “Hola” out of Matte Gold cardstock. Die cut three extra white layers out of this same sentiment to create some dimension.

TIP: You can by all means use a full A2 notecard embossed panel, I chose to just emboss half of an A2 panel to add some interest.

TIP: Add an extra layer of the sentiment banner using color cardstock to add some extra interest to your sentiment.

  • Ink blend one A2 panel with yellow, pink, orange, and green inks. Emboss this panel with the Flower and foliage. Add some extra ink onto this panel using the same ink pads you used to ink up the panel.
  • Cut out the flower, leaves, and flower center of the Woodland tales floral out of white, leave, and yellow cardstock.
  • Assemble the flower and foam mount it onto your embossed inked panel.
  • Use the die “gracias” from the Spanish everyday sentiments etched dies to cut out your sentiment our of green cardstock.
  • Die cut three extra white layers out of this same sentiment to create some dimension.
  • For the second card, use watercolors or any other medium to ink up a panel using pink, orange and yellow. Cut out this panel with one of the Essentials Stylish Ovals dies.
  • Foam mount your oval panel onto an A2 cream side folding cardbase.
  • Use the Spanish Sentiments Betterpress plate to foil these sentiments using Matte Gold cardstock. Die cut them with the coordinating die
  • Add two extra layers of the labels in pink and green behind the main label.
  • Cut out some small flowers from the Fresh Picked Buttercups set our of white cardstock.
  • Decorate your card front with these flowers.

I hope these projects inspire you to create and have fun playing with these fun and versatile sentiments.
