Creating Sweet Scenes with the Little Smiles Collection

Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m thrilled to be back on the blog today to share a couple of sweet cards made with the new Little Smiles Collection from Spellbinders.  The adorable die sets, fun background designs, and sweet sentiments in this collection inspired me to create three cute cards celebrating all the little ones in our lives.

Hello Baby Card

I couldn’t get over how cute and unique the Swinging Among the Stars Die Set was, so I picked this set up first to play with.  Here I created a soft and sweet scene with some of the BetterPress plates and dies from the collection for a fun baby card with some surprise movement.

Die cut various colors of cardstock using the hot air balloon and elephant dies from the Swinging Among the Stars Die Set and assemble the balloon and bucket separately with liquid glue.  Apply Prism Hot Foil to white cardstock using the Little Smiles BetterPress Plates & Die Set and cut out with the coordinating die.  Add the sentiment to the assembled basket with foam adhesive.

Apply Prism Hot Foil to Breeze Cardstock using the Falling Stars BetterPress Plate and trim the panel down to 4” x 5.25” before adhering to a top-folding white card base with foam adhesive.  Die cut white cardstock using the cloud dies from the Swinging Among the Stars Die Set and add to the background with liquid glue.  Using a foam square in the center of the swinging mechanism, adhere the balloon and basket to the front of the card.  I love how unexpected the swinging basket is!

Sweet Monkey Birthday Card

And how adorable is the Go Kart Go Die Set?!   You can create all kinds of fun scenes with this set, but here I just added my little monkey to a simple background for this easy birthday card.

Die various colors of cardstock using the monkey, car, and balloon dies from the Go Kart Go Die Set.  Assemble the monkey in his car, but leave the balloons separate until you are ready to put together your scene.  Die-cut white and Peridot Cardstock using one of the dies from the Perfect Touch Rectangles & Tag Dies.  Die cut the Peridot layer again using the grass die from the Landscape Edges Die Set and blend Mowed Lawn Distress Ink around the edges of the die-cut.  Lightly blend Salty Ocean Distress Ink around the edges of the white die-cut and add the green layer to the bottom of the white panel with liquid glue.

Trim a piece of Wild Berry Cardstock to 4.25” x 5.5” and emboss it using the Tiny Dots Embossing Folder before adhering it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with tape runner.  Add the inked background panel to the center of the card with foam adhesive and pop the monkey, car, and balloons up on top of the card front with more foam adhesive.  Press the Little Smiles Sentiments BetterPress Plate onto white cardstock using Black BetterPress Ink, cut out with the coordinating die, and add to the bottom of the card with foam adhesive.

Bundle of Joy Card

Lastly, I thought the Bundle of Joy Die Set was such a sweet way to send congrats to an expectant mother.  Since I don’t need this kind of baby card right now, I kept the colors a little gender-neutral and I’ll be able to pull this one out and send it right away the minute I need it!

Die cut various colors of cardstock using the stork and baby dies from the Bundle of Joy Die Set and assemble with liquid glue.  I chose purple and teal and dressed the baby in the beanie so this cutie could pass for a boy or a girl…I love how many options there are in this set!  Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using the Falling Stars BetterPress Plate.  Cut the center out of the foiled panel using one of the Perfect Touch Arches Dies and then emboss it with the Wishing Stars 3D Embossing Folder.

Emboss a piece of Breeze Cardstock using the Wishing Stars 3D Embossing Folder and adhere it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base.  Die cut white cardstock using the cloud border from the Bundle of Joy Die Set, blend a little Tumbled Glass Distress Ink around the edges, and add it to the card front with liquid glue.  Pop the foiled frame up on top of the card front with foam adhesive and add the stork and baby to the scene with more foam adhesive.  Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using the Little Smiles BetterPress Plates & Die Set and cut out with the coordinating die.  Add the sentiment to the cloud with foam adhesive.
