From Inspiration to Creation with the DIY Color Deck by Jean Manis
Hello! Looking for a fresh approach to choosing colors for your crafts? Jean Manis here sharing three projects that showcase the DIY Color Deck from Spellbinders. Each of the 52 cards in the deck features an art piece alongside five blank spaces, inviting you to swatch custom color combinations. Draw inspiration from the overall style, mood, and/or the hues that resonate most with you. Let’s take a look!
A PERCHED BIRD IN BOLD HUES
For my first card, I used an image with a girl in a black top, surrounded by red and yellow floral elements. Drawing from this striking palette, I crafted a card featuring a bird perched on a branch against a yellow backdrop.
- Dry-emboss a Classic White A2-size panel with the Flowers & Foliage Attach to card base.
- Cut an arch of Classic White cardstock with a die in the Essential Arches
- Stamp the Typewriter Adventure Sentiments sentiment in black on Beeswax cardstock and cut with a die in the Essential Arches
- Add sentiment arch to Classic White arch; add assembly to card base.
- Cut the bird and greenery with dies in the Love Note Bird Assemble bird.
- Cut flowers with dies in the Mushroom Mansion and Sprinkle & Grow Assemble.
- Add bird and greenery to card background with foam adhesive. Add flowers to greenery with foam adhesive.
A RAINY DAY IN SOFT PASTELS
For my second card, I used an image featuring a mansion nestled in a dreamy pastel landscape. With its soft, low-contrast hues, the scene feels serene and inviting. I created a card depicting a girl in a yellow raincoat holding an umbrella in shades of pink.
- Dry-emboss a Classic White A2-size panel with the Flowers & Foliage Attach to card base.
- Stamp the Typewriter Adventure Sentiments sentiment in black on Breeze cardstock and cut with the largest die in the Essential Arches Add to the card base.
- Cut umbrella and girl with dies in the Dancin’ in the Rain Assemble. Add to card base using foam adhesive to attach the umbrella.
- Embellish with clear enamel dots.
WATERING CAN BOUQUET
For my third card I was inspired by an image of a cactus plant with a mix of greens, blues, and oranges. I created a card with a blue watering can and orange and white flowers, reflecting the colors and natural beauty of the scene.
- Dry-emboss a Classic White A2-size panel with the Flowers & Foliage Attach to card base.
- Cut an arch of Malibu cardstock with a die in the Essential Arches
- Stamp the Typewriter Adventure Sentiments sentiment in black on Carrot cardstock and cut with a paper cutter. Attach the sentiment strip to the arch. Add assembly to the card base.
- Cut watering can and foliage with dies in the Sprinkle & Grow Assemble can and foliage elements.
- Cut additional floral elements and bird with dies in the Garden Buddies Assemble.
- Assemble the watering can and attach to the card background with foam adhesive. Add foliage and bird with glue and foam adhesive.
