Color Play, Color Inspiration and Color Combination Creator All in One!
Hi there crafty friends! I’m Rebecca and I LOVE color! Every color of the rainbow makes me so happy! Sometimes, though, I get a bit stuck in a rut when I am choosing color combinations for my cards. Enter the Spellbinders Color Deck!
If you love color too, but struggle to come up with fun, fresh color combinations or would just like to find some color inspiration, you will love the Color Deck! The Color Deck comes in a handy and sturdy and (of course!) colorful box with a sliding drawer that opens with a ribbon pull tab.
Once you pull out the drawer, you will see a stack of beautifully printed cards. There is a notch in the drawer to make it easy to select some cards from the Deck.
Once you select a card, it’s time to pull together colors featured in the photo. I am working with Spellbinders Color Cardstock for this first combination, so I use my Spellbinders Color Wheel swatch book to find colors that match.
In addition to the Color Deck, I recommend grabbing the new Spellbinders 1” Punch. The Punch comes flat so flip it over and slide the switch to the right to unlock it.
Next, use the Punch to cut out 5 colors of cardstock that you see in the photo. Your colors might be different than mine, but that is part of the fun!
Add your favorite adhesive behind each of the punched squares.
And line them up alongside the photo. The spots provided perfectly fit the 1” squares.
Now you have an inspirational color scheme for your next project!
But there’s more! Flip the card over and you will find color theory information, ideas on how to use color to convey a message and even sketch ideas! I decided to use my color combo to create a card with the sketch on the back of the card.
To create the various circle halves, I used the Spellbinders Everlasting Circles dies and cut out some colors from my combination.
Then I used the Spellbinders Guillotine trimmer to cut the circles in half.
I also used the trimmer to cut a strip out of the sentiment that I stamped using the Typewriter Adventure Clear Stamp Set.
Creating a card from a sketch is a fun way to try out a new design.
Combining the sketch with the new color combination really took the guesswork out of creating the clean and simple card and made it so much fun!
But you can use the Color Deck for more than cardstock color combinations. Try your favorite inks too. I chose a new card from the Deck and blended splotches of several Distress Oxide inks to match the card.
Then, I punched out a square from each of the ink colors and adhered them to the side of the card just like I had done with the cardstock squares.
I also used another card to create a color combination with watercolors by painting colorful splotches on water color paper that matched the card.
To make sure you get the whole square punched out of the paint splotch, you can turn the punch upside down to see exactly where you are punching.
You can get lots of different effects and looks from your color combinations depending on the mediums you choose!
There are so many cards in the Color Deck! I can’t wait to try more color combinations and learn more about color while creating colorful designs!
