Hopping By With A Froggy Trio
Hello there, Michelle Short here and I am delighted to be back on the Spellbinders blog using the Jump for Joy collection. This small but wonderful collection features a frog/toad that you can use in different scenes and for different occasions.
HOPPING BY
My first card uses Frog Prince Etched Dies, as well as Jump for Joy Sentiments Clear Stamp Set. I love that the Frog Prince set has flowers and a mushroom in it along with the frog so that you can create a scene with the frog, or you can use them separately too.
To make this card:
- Die cut frog from Rainforest, Fern, Classic White, and Raven ColorWheel Cardstock.
- Adhere together using Bearly Art Glue, attaching the head to the body with a little thin foam tape.
- Die cut mushroom from Classic White, Wild Berry, Alabaster, and Fawn ColorWheel Cardstock. Assemble and adhere using Bearly Art Glue.
- Die cut flowers using Lilac, Lavender, Beeswax, and Saffron ColorWheel Cardstock and adhere pieces together using Bearly Art Glue.
- Die cut stems and leaves from Peridot ColorWheel Cardstock.
- Create A2 size side-folding card base (4.25” x 5.5”) and die cut the top using the cloud die from Frog Prince Etched Dies.
- Stamp sentiment from Jump for Joy Sentiments Clear Stamp Set onto front of card base using Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink.
- Adhere frog to mushroom first, holding in place at the back with a little tape. Adhere to card using thin foam tape.
- Adhere flowers to stems and then onto the card using thin foam tape behind the flower heads, and Bearly Art Glue behind the stems.
- Before the glue dries, pop leaves behind the stems.
- Cut excess off the bottom using Shears.
- To finish, embellish with Clear Enamel Dots.
TOP TIP: When cutting into a card base, I like to add a sheet of scrap paper between the back of the card base and the cutting plate. This way I do not get any indentations from the cutting mat onto the card. If the die does not cut all the way through, cut along the line with scissors to finish the cut.
MAKE A WISH
I thought I would create a tag using the same sets but this time, make the frog into a prince!
To make this tag:
- Die cut the frog from Peridot, Rainforest, Classic White, and Raven ColorWheel Cardstock.
- Adhere together using Bearly Art Glue, attaching the head to the body with a little thin foam tape.
- Die cut leaves from Rainforest ColorWheel Cardstock.
- Cut panel of white cardstock to 2.5” x 3.75” and punch one end using 3-in-1 Tag Punch to create tag.
- Cut strip of Fern ColorWheel Cardstock and adhere to bottom of tag. Cut excess off with Shears.
- Before the glue dries, pop bottom of leaves behind the Fern piece.
- Adhere frog on top using thin foam tape.
- Die cut crown from Lilac ColorWheel Cardstock and adhere piece of Lavender ColorWheel Cardstock
- Adhere to frog’s head using a foam square.
- Stamp sentiment from Jump for Joy Sentiments Clear Stamp Set onto Raven ColorWheel Cardstock using Versamark Ink. Apply white embossing powder and heat set.
- Cut into two strips and adhere to tag with thin foam tape.
- Thread twine through the top of the tag and tie in a bow.
- To finish, embellish with Clear Enamel Dots.
TOADLY AMAZING
For my last project, I’m using Frog Prince Etched Dies again, but this time, combined with the Lily Pad Stencil.
To make this card:
- Die cut frog/toad from Fern, Chiffon, Classic White, and Raven ColorWheel Cardstock.
- Adhere together using Bearly Art Glue, attaching the head to the body with a little thin foam tape.
- Take panel of white cardstock and using Best Ever Craft Tape, adhere the first Lily Pad Stencil on top.
- Using blending brushes, add ink blending with aqua inks for the water.
- Add ink blending to the top of the bullrush with brown inks.
- Add ink blending to the top of the lily pad with green inks.
- Add ink blending to the top of the flower with purple inks.
- Remove stencil and place second stencil down.
- Add ink blending to stems and bottom of the lily pad with green inks.
- Die cut panel using Essential Arches Etched Dies.
- Add ink blending to the bottom of the panel with aqua inks.
- Die cut another panel of white cardstock using the same Essential Arches Etched Die. Score along the top to create a hinge. Add adhesive to the hinge and adhere to the back of the stencilled panel to create an arch shaped card base.
- Stamp and heat emboss sentiment from Jump for Joy Sentiments Clear Stamp Set onto Raven ColorWheel Cardstock and cut into strip.
- Adhere toad onto lily pad with thin foam tape.
- To finish, embellish with Clear Enamel Dots.
TOP TIP: I like using the hinge method to create shaped card bases, but you could also die cut into a card base, like I did with the first card too. Just remember to have the edge of the die overlapping the fold to keep it intact!
I hope you have enjoyed seeing my projects today. Thank you so much for visiting and I hope you have a wonderful day!
