Easy A2 Cards with House-Mouse – Let’s Stamp & Color!
Hey crafty friends! It’s Paula Fontenelle here from Crafting with Paula, and today we’re going back to basics with a simple A2 card tutorial featuring the adorable House-Mouse Rare Bloom collection. Whether you’re new to cardmaking or just love a quick project, this one’s for you! Here are some examples from the collection. For the tutorial, I’ll be using the mouse with the balloon.
FIRST THINGS FIRST: LET’S BUILD A CARD BASE!
What’s an A2 card? It’s the most common card size out there: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″. To make one, just cut a piece of cardstock to 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, fold it in half, and you’ve got your card base.
I chose colored cardstock for the base because it gives a nice contrast to the white panel we’ll stamp and color on. That white piece? Trim it to 5-1/4″ x 4″ so you get that beautiful border around the edge. It’s a simple trick that instantly makes your card pop!
TIME TO STAMP!
Before you stamp, here’s a pro tip: Plan your sentiment placement first so you don’t accidentally run out of space!
Now grab your stamping tool—whether it’s a classic acrylic block or something fancy like The Misti (my fave!). I love using a stamp positioner because if your first stamp isn’t perfect, you can easily go over it again for a clean, crisp image.
NOW, THE FUN PART, COLORING!
This is where the magic happens! I used Copic markers for this card—they’re alcohol-based and blend beautifully. But heads up: Use dye or hybrid ink to stamp your image so the lines don’t smear, and be sure to stamp on Copic-friendly white cardstock—trust me, it makes all the difference when blending.
If you’re unsure about which colors to use, just check the packaging or online sample images. They’re super helpful!
Want your coloring to really stand out? Use two or three shades of the same color to create depth. Start with your lightest color in the center, then build up to darker tones around the edges—it gives your images that extra “wow” factor. I used this technique on the mouse and the balloons, and they came to life in no time!
Another important tip is to add white paper on the inside of the card. This makes it easier to write on when the base is colored.
FINISHING TOUCHES
Once my image was all colored, I added a few enamel dots—because who doesn’t love a little sparkle?
Here’s my finished card, plus another example using the same stamp for even more inspiration.
That’s it, crafty crew!
Thanks so much for crafting along with me. I had the best time playing with the House-Mouse® Rare Bloom collection, and I hope these tips help you feel more confident and excited about stamping and coloring.
Until next time—
Happy crafting!
Paula
