Cardmaking,  Die Cutting,  Step by Step Tutorials

Spread Your Wings and Take Flight!

Hello crafty friends! It’s Lisa Tilson here with you today on the Spellbinders blog. I’m thrilled to be here to share three ways to use the super cute Cheerful Chirps Collection with you. This is a very sweet collection that includes three sets of bird dies, a 3D embossing folder, some pretty yellow sequins, and a clear sentiment set with punny greetings to suit many occasions.

So, let’s get started with my three cards for today.

Fly High and Dream Big

For this card, I am using the Pretty Birds Etched Dies and the Spread Your Wings Sentiments Clear Stamp Set. I love how these sweet birds sit on a hanging perch!

Spread Your Wings and Take Flight! STP-252, S4-1406

  1. Die cut the birds from Beeswax, Saffron, Peridot, Rainforest, Raven, Carrot, Chiffon, and white cardstock. Adhere the pieces together using Bearly Art Glue.
  2. Next, die-cut the flowers and leaves from Teal Topaz, Waterfall, Beeswax, Saffron, Peridot, Rainforest, Fern, and white cardstock. Glue the centres onto the flowers and set everything to one side.

  1. Next, die-cut the perch from Acorn ColorWheel Cardstock. The hanger/rope and the little metal accents were die cut from the matte metallic gold card from Gold Assortment Treasured Cardstock. Assemble them and set to one side.
  2. Taking the Perfect Touch Arches and Tag Etched Dies, cut the second largest arch from white cardstock. Adhere this onto a panel of A2 Teal Topaz ColorWheel Cardstock and then add this onto a top-folding white A2 note card.
  3. Adhere your perch and hanger onto the white arch. I left the bottom rail free of ink for now so that I could slot my birds behind when the time came.

  1. Temporarily position your birds onto the perch so you can see where to add your sentiment.
  2. Stamp a sentiment from Spread Your Wings Sentiments Clear Stamp Set towards the top of the arch using Versafine Onyx Black Ink.
  3. Adhere the birds behind the rail and glue the remaining sections of the rail down. You can now adhere their little black feet on top!
  4. Finish off by adhering your flowers around the perch and a couple onto the birds using foam tape and glue.

Free Hugs

For this card, I used Free Hugs Oscar Etched Dies and combined him with Flying High Etched Dies. I thought it would be fun to pair Oscar with an older set called Tunnel Clouds Etched Dies.

  1. Start off by die-cutting Oscar. I used Beeswax, Saffron, Tuscan, and Chiffon ColorWheel Cardstock for his body. The beak was die cut from Carrot ColorWheel Cardstock, and his eyes and feet from Raven and white card.
  2. I then took the Flying High Etched Dies and cut the branch from Rainforest, the leaves from Fern and the flowers from Rainforest, Beeswax, Saffron and white card.
  3. I assembled Oscar and the flowers and set them to the side.

  1. Next, I took the Tunnel Clouds Etched Dies and die cut the largest cloud die from Peridot and the inner layer from Teal Topaz card.
  2. I adhered the Teal Topaz layer onto a top-folding white A2 note card using Bearly Art Glue.
  3. The top piece was then added using some thin foam tape. I used foam tape here for extra interest and to allow me to tuck the branch in behind.
  4. I glued the branch into place and then adhered the leaves and flowers towards the end of it.

  1. Oscar was then added onto the branch with foam tape.
  2. My sentiment comes from Free Hugs Oscar, and it was die cut from Raven ColorWheel Cardstock three times. I adhered the three layers together and then added them onto the panel.
  3. I finished by popping a few Chameleon Opalescent Sequins around Oscar for a little bit of sparkle

Hello

For my final card, I thought it would be fun to really put those pretty yellow sequins to work and I made a shaker. I used the Flying High Etched Dies along with the Bamboo Screen 3D Embossing Folder for this card.

Spread Your Wings and Take Flight! S4-1407, E3D-121, S5-526, STP-238

  1. I almost always start off by doing all of my die cutting, but this time I kicked off the card by creating the shaker element first. For this, I took an A2 panel of Blue Spruce ColorWheel Cardstock and die-cut an arch into it using the Essential Arches Etched Dies. I selected the arch die that corresponds with the Arch Shaker Domes.
  2. Next, I sprayed the die-cut panel lightly with some water and popped it into the Bamboo Screen 3D Embossing Folder. I then ran the folder through my Platinum 6 Die Cutting Machine using the 3D embossing folder sandwich. The reason that I embossed the panel after die cutting it is so that I don’t lose any of that lovely texture.
  3. I then took the Arch Shaker Domes and adhered the dome behind the window of my embossed panel using Bearly Art Glue.

  1. I then took another panel of Blue Spruce ColorWheel Cardstock and adhered it onto a top-folding white A2 note card.
  2. I tipped a generous mound of Chameleon Opalescent Sequins onto the centre of my note card and then added double-sided tape to the back of the embossed/shaker dome panel before placing it down over the sequins. That finishes the shaker element. I love how dimensional this card is and it’s always fun to receive a shaker in the mail!
  3. Next, I die-cut the bird and leaves from Flying High Etched Dies. I used Mint, Teal Topaz, Saffron, Raven, Chiffon, and white card for the bird. The leaf branch, and flowers were die cut from Peridot, Rainforest, Beeswax, Saffron and white card.
  4. I assembled the bird and branch and then adhered them onto the dome using wet adhesive.

  1. For my sentiment, I used Typewriter Adventure Sentiments Clear Stamp Set and I stamped the “hello” onto some Raven ColorWheel Cardstock using Versamark Ink. I applied Hero Arts White Detail Embossing Powder and heat set it before cutting it out with a Hero Arts Circle Infinity Die.
  2. I finished by using wet adhesive to glue the sentiment onto the dome.

That brings me to the end of my cards for today. I hope they give you some inspiration for creating with this sweet collection. If you would like to see more of my cards, I would love to have you join me over on my blog, Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube. In the meantime, thank you so much for joining me here on the blog today. I hope that you have a great day!
