How To Create A Guitar Shaped Card
Hello there, Michelle Short here to share a step-by-step tutorial using the Majestic Guitar Etched Dies from Bibi’s Musical Notes Collection. This set creates a 7-inch-tall guitar that fits perfectly on an A7 card base. There is also an add-on die set for side panels, so that you can create a 3D guitar too, but for today, I thought it would be fun to create a guitar-shaped card!
You can use any colour combination here, but purples are my favourite, so that’s what I went with!

STEP 1 – DIE CUTTING THE GUITAR

Die cut dies from Majestic Guitar:
- Cut pieces of cardstock slightly larger than the size of the dies.
- Place the main body of the guitar, as well as the insert piece, onto Lilac ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
- Place the pickguard die onto Lavender ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
- Place strings die onto Raven ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
- Place circle pieces, bridge die, fretboard, and machine heads dies onto Brushed Silver Treasured Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
TIP: Holding dies down with tape prevents them from shifting when going through the die-cutting machine. Use a low-tack tape like Best Ever Craft Tape so that it removes easily from the cardstock.

- Create your die cutting plate sandwich – (bottom to top) A Platform Base, B Platform Top, C Cutting Plate, cardstock pieces with dies on top, C Cutting Plate.
- Run through Platinum SIX Die Cutting Machine.
- Remove dies from cardstock and pop out die cuts.
- Repeat the process to cut another fretboard from Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock and two of the base layers of the guitar from Iris Premium Cardstock.
STEP 2 – ASSEMBLE THE GUITAR

- Add Bearly Art Glue onto the back of the front panel of the guitar and adhere to the base layer.

- Adhere circle pieces around sound hole, followed by the bridge.

- Adhere frets onto fretboard.
- Adhere fretboard onto machine heads piece.
TIP: Use tweezers or an embellishment tool to help pick up and place down small die cuts.

- Adhere the fretboard cut from Classic White cardstock to the back of the silver one. This will not only give it stability, but it will also make sure that it looks nice from the back too.

- Add small dabs of glue to the back of the strings.
- Adhere onto the fretboard.

- Add glue onto the back of the fretboard at the bottom, as well as the bottom of the strings.
- Adhere onto body of guitar.
STEP 3 – TURN THE GUITAR INTO A CARD

- Take the second base layer of the guitar (cut from Iris cardstock) and cut a small amount off the bottom using a guillotine. This will help the card stand up straight.

- Place onto scoreboard and score a line at the top of the guitar base approximately 5/8” from the top, using a bone folder or stylus, to create a hinge.

- Add adhesive to the hinge and adhere to the back of the guitar, lining up with the front piece.

- Reinforce the hinge by folding it back and forth, making sure that the card will stand up nicely.
TIP: Use strong adhesive on the hinge to make sure that it will hold well. Double-sided tape works well for this.
STEP 4 – EMBELLISH THE GUITAR

- Add glue onto the back of the pickguard.
- Adhere to the guitar body.

- Die cut flowers from Mini Guitar Etched Dies from Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock three times.
- Die cut flower centres from Beeswax ColorWheel Cardstock three times.
- Die cut leaves from Peridot ColorWheel Cardstock four times.

- Adhere two of the flower layers together, off-setting.
- Adhere flower centre to middle.
- Repeat the process to create three flowers.

- Adhere leaves to guitar first, using Bearly Art Glue.
- Add foam squares onto the back of the flowers. Remove backings off of foam tape and adhere to guitar.
STEP 5 – CREATE THE SENTIMENT

- Place piece of Raven ColorWheel Cardstock into Mini MISTI.
- Take ‘You Rock’ sentiment from Family Musical Mix Greetings Clear Stamp Set and place it on top.
- Close Mini MISTI door to pick up the stamp and ink up stamp using Versamark Ink.

- Apply Detail White Embossing Powder and tap of excess.
- Heat embossing powder using a heat tool until melted.
- Set aside to cool for a few minutes and then die cut into a strip using the sentiment strip die from Mini Everyday Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate & Die Set.

- Add foam squares onto the back and adhere to card.
- To finish, embellish with Prism AB Color Essentials Gems.
TIP: Using a Tool ‘n One to pick up the gems is really helpful. Not only can you pick up the gems easily, you can place them onto the card with precision too!

I really love creating shaped cards, and using the hinge method is an easy way to do it. I hope I have inspired you to give it a go! Thank you so much for stopping by today. I hope you have a wonderful day!
