Together Like Spaghetti and Meatballs

Hello, crafty friends! It’s Marie here again from Marie Nicole Designs. I’m so excited to be here on the Spellbinders blog today to share a few cards I created using the Buon Appetito collection. This collection has some of the cutest dies and some very clever and punny sentiments to go with. Whenever I’m working with stamps and dies that are cute, I love creating little scenes that are full of personality. Let’s take a look at what I created!

For my first card, I just knew I wanted to try to craft a big bowl of pasta with some of our little pasta friends swimming in it. I sorted all the little dies and found the ravioli shapes and decided that they would look cute on my card. I also wanted to stick with the same color theme for all three cards, so I chose my colors first and stuck to those while crafting. I used some greens, off-whites, yellows, reds, and a few other neutral colors for little accents.

For my ravioli card, I started by cutting out a few circles using some nested dies. I used an off-white for the bowl and a red for the sauce inside. I then used a little bit of ink to add some shading around the edges. I didn’t want a lot of ink blending, but just enough to give a little texture.

Then, I used a pencil to draw a faint line around the bowl where I wanted to stamp my sentiment. I used this line to help guide me in gently curving the clear sentiment stamp on the door of my stamping platform so I could turn the straight sentiment into a curved sentiment in the exact placement that I needed.

After my sentiment was stamped, I added the bowl with foam adhesive, and then layered in my little ravioli pieces in a fun arrangement. I also embellished a little by adding the fork, the mushrooms, leaf garnishes, and a little bow tie on the ravioli in the front.

For my second card, I wanted to use the macaroni pieces with the cheese for a fun shaker card! I cut out multiple macaronis and the cheese character. For the shaker filling, I took the same color of yellow cardstock and trimmed it into very thin strips, and then cut it down to make it look like shredded cheese.

I used nested rectangles this time for this card. I cut out a piece for the card base, and then cut out a frame from some red checkered patterned paper. On the backside of my frame piece, I adhered a sheet of acetate to create the clear window. If you don’t have acetate, you could always use some clear packaging as a window. Then, I added my shredded cheese and a few macaroni pieces in a pile on my base layer, and carefully lined up and adhered the framed window over it using foam adhesive for dimension. I love the fun and crazy look of shredded cheese for a shaker card!

To finish this fun card, I added the Mac and Cheese friends on front and the fun sentiment!

My third card features another classic pair- spaghetti and meatballs. This card is a pretty basic design. I again used the nested A2 rectangles and cut out three layers. For the base layer, I used the embossing folder from the collection. I love the amazing dimension these folders give to embossed paper! How fun are all those embossed pasta shapes? It created the perfect textured look for the background.

Over the embossed background, I layered my other rectangles. Again, I used a checkered pattern layered behind another piece of off-white. On the top layer, I stamped the sentiment and added our meatball and spaghetti friend. This time, I didn’t give them arms and legs, but just added them without. You can create these characters either way! Use them with limbs holding hands or without. So many ways to be creative!

That is a look at the Buon Appetito collection. I hope you find it as charming as I do, and that you’ll have fun creating with it!

Thanks again for stopping by the blog today, and I hope to catch you next time!
