Step by Step Tutorial: A Buon Natale Christmas Card

Hello, crafty friends! This is Silvia. I’m so excited to be a guest designer on the Spellbinders blog today, and I just can’t wait to share with you a step-by-step tutorial for a festive card featuring the new Italian Holiday Sentiments Etched die set from the International Holiday Sentiments Collection.

I love making Christmas cards, and I really enjoy using sentiments in my own language for those for my friends and family, and this new die set is absolutely perfect for this. I also like mixing and matching different collections, so here I also used the Cocoa Greetings and the Scallop and Stitched Edge Ovals die sets, and I opted for my favorite Christmas color palette: white, teal, pink, and red.

STEP 1

Cut a 5,75”x4,5” panel from white cardstock and emboss it with the In the Pines embossing folder using the Spellbinders Platinum 6 die cutting machine.

Place the white panel in the embossing folder and run it through the machine using the correct sandwich.

STEP 2

Then, place the textured cardstock on a media mat for ink blending and gently apply teal color to the edges of it with a blending brush. If you decide to use two different color shades, remember to apply the lighter one first.

STEP 3

Splatter the embossed panel with the Splatter White Opaque Watercolor and a gold acrylic paint using a paintbrush.

Then, lose some drops of these paints with clean water and press into the edges of the panel randomly.

STEP 4

Use the Scallop and Stitched Oval Edge die set to cut a scallop oval panel from red cardstock, two smaller oval panels from white cardstock, and a bow from fuchsia cardstock, running them through the die cutting machine.

Next, use the Cocoa Greetings die set to cut Santa’s head and hat from colored cardstock.

STEP 5

Ink blend the biggest white oval panel with a blending brush in light pink and the other one in light grey.

Splatter the first one with Splatter White Opaque Watercolor and gold acrylic paint, and the second one with light grey acrylic paint using a tiny paintbrush.

STEP 6

Put together the Santa’s head and the bow with liquid glue.

Once dry, add some shading on them using a brown ink and a mini blending brush. Then add some snowfall texture paste on them and sprinkle them with clear glitter.

STEP 7

Use liquid glue to attach the embossed panel on a cardbase.

Next, glue the scallop panel in the center of it and add the other two oval panels over the red one.

STEP 8

Use the International Holiday Sentiments-Italian die set to cut the ‘Buon Natale’ words from gold glittered cardstock and the outline from vellum.

Glue the gold words on the vellum outline.

STEP 9
