DIY 3D Felt Easter Egg Ornaments with Flowers | Spellbinders Tutorial

Hello, crafty friends! I’m Heejung Hunsberger, and I’m thrilled to be back as a Guest Designer for Spellbinders, showcasing another exciting project from the 3D Felt Decor Spring Collection by Sandi Maclver!

In this tutorial, I’ll guide you through creating unique, plush Easter ornaments featuring delightful floral designs using the 3D Eggs & Flowers Die. These interactive 3D eggs not only stand upright beautifully for a spring display but also include a charming option to add a hanging loop for added fun!

If you’d like to get to know me better, visit my blog or follow me on Instagram. Additionally, I have a YouTube channel where I regularly post video tutorials.

Step 1: Die-Cutting the Components

  • Use the 3D Eggs & Flowers die set to cut four side panels and one square bottom piece for each egg.
  • Select high-quality felt in vibrant spring hues like orange, purple, pink, and aqua.
  • Die-cut an assortment of petals, leaves, and center pieces; this versatile set includes dies for daffodils, tulips, and whimsical blossoms, allowing for a wide variety of egg designs.

Step 2: Embroidering the Greenery

  • Position the die-cut leaves onto each individual panel and secure them with a neat running stitch.
  • Hand-stitch a vertical line from the base of the leaves upward to create a custom stem for the flowers.

Step 3: Constructing 3D Flowers

  • Daffodils: Layer two petal pieces and secure them with cross-stitches. Roll the small felt center piece and stitch it onto the base to form the 3D trumpet.
  • Floral Variety: Follow a similar layering and stitching process for tulips and other blossoms included in the set to create a diverse garden of eggs.
  • Attachment: Sew the completed 3D flowers firmly onto the panels at the top of the embroidered stems.

Step 4: Final Assembly and Finishing

  • Connecting the Base: Position the four decorated panels around the square bottom piece and whip-stitch them together to create the foundation.
  • Forming the Shape: Align the vertical edges of the side panels and stitch them together, leaving one seam partially open.
  • Adding Volume: Fill the interior with fiberfill through the opening to achieve a rounded, plump appearance.
  • Hanging Loop (Optional): Depending on personal preference, a hanging loop can be added. Tie a knot in a piece of yarn and insert it into the top of the egg before sealing. This step can be omitted if a standing decor piece is preferred.

A Garden of Possibilities

One of the most exciting parts of this project is seeing how different flowers transform each egg. By playing with the various dies in the collection, you can create a vibrant assortment of daffodils, tulips, and colorful blossoms.
