Funny Birthday Card Ideas Using the Spellbinders Aged to Perfection Collection
Hello Spellbinders Fans! It’s Amy Tsuruta, and I’m so happy to be back on the Spellbinders blog sharing these three cards featuring the Aged to Perfection Collection. I thoroughly enjoyed working with these witty and fun products. They’re full of personality and perfect for celebrating birthdays with humor. I know several people, myself included, who will be celebrating milestone birthdays this year, and these designs felt like such a fun and lighthearted way to mark those special moments.

OLD PEOPLE
Chuckling, I was reminded of a holiday window display at Le Bon Marché in Paris, France, that featured chattering teeth toys. Maybe it’s a new trend, but it’s definitely a classic novelty or prank gift. I wanted to do something a bit different with the teeth in my design, taking them in a more unexpected direction. Instead, I treated them like dentures, and rather than soaking them in a traditional drinking glass, I tucked them into a mug from Merry Mug Creations. That small twist added an extra layer of humor and helped tie everything together in a fun, lighthearted way. If you’ve been following me for a bit, you know I love adding a caffeinated spin whenever I can.

- Start with a white A2 panel as the base.
- Layer a Waterfall panel that has been trimmed down to 4.0 x 5.25 inches.
- Die-cut the medium-size Linear Touch Rectangles in Waterfall.
- Layer a White panel on top of the Linear Touch Rectangle that has been trimmed to 2.75 x 4.0 inches.
- Using Malachite BetterPress Ink and the Journal Grid, run through the BetterPress with Waterfall cardstock. Trim that panel down to 2.50 x 3.75.
- Put together the Merry Mug in vellum.
- Build the Dancin’ Chatterbox with Poppy and White cardstock, and drop them into the mug.
- Heat emboss the sentiment in white on a strip of Waterfall.

TIP: I love a monochromatic card with a pop of color!
YAY
I love to celebrate my birthdays, but I know not everyone feels the same way. Sometimes people aren’t always excited to mark another year, and that’s when we could all use a little cheering. A birthday can be a big milestone—or just another day that needs a spark of joy. The Yay die cut word felt like the perfect little cheerleader, bringing joy and enthusiasm to birthdays or really any celebratory occasion that deserves a happy moment.
Trim down a Poppy panel to 5.0 x 4.25 inches.- Use the Take Note Registration Press Plates with Porcelain BetterPress Cotton paper along with Malachite and BetterPress Black inks. Trim it down to 4.5 x 3.75 inches and adhere to the Poppy base.
- Build the Yay word by cutting Porcelain BetterPress Cotton paper, Waterfall, and Poppy ColorWheel cardstock.
- Adhere the word with foam dimensional tape.

TIP: By designing the card just a bit smaller than a standard A2, the sentiment and die-cut Yay really stand out.
HBD
Who doesn’t love a cute critter card? I knew the moment I saw the fun HBD Balloons set that it needed to be teamed up with an equally fun animal. Pairing the balloons with a sweet Hedgehog added instant personality and charm, while still keeping the design birthday-focused. The final card felt like the perfect fit for someone celebrating a winter birthday—especially if they don’t mind a little snark mixed in with the cute.

- Using the Make a Wish Arch Labels, cut with Waterfall, Poppy, and Alabaster cardstocks.
- Starting with the Waterfall arch, layer the Poppy scallop and finish off with the Alabaster.
- Cut the balloons with Waterfall and Poppy, and the strings with Raven cardstock. Glue the strings to the balloon and set aside to dry.
- Build the Hedgehog with Poppy, Waterfall, Fawn, Alabaster, and Raven cardstocks. Remember to trim off the ice skates.
- Using a Mini Misti, put the Arch Label base in and stamp the sentiment from the new Birthday Laughs Sentiment stamp set with black ink.
- Place the Hedgehog next to the sentiment with foam adhesive.
- Using foam adhesive, stage the HBD balloons so that they fit onto the cardbase and look like they are being held by the Hedgehog’s hand. The strings will need to be trimmed down.

TIP: A shaped card adds extra charm to the overall birthday card design.

These are so cute! I love that the frame and arch both have similar detail on the edges. Your colors are spot on.

Amy Hi, it’s Marie from Enumclaw. I love the cards you made using this collection from SPL, they really gave me a chuckle. Being of ‘that age’, I have friends that would get a kick out of the humor. Thanks for sharing these with us.
