Poppy Song Card Tutorial: Easy Embossed Background and Die Cut Flowers

Hello, crafty friends! Marie here again from Marie Nicole Designs. I have the privilege and pleasure to share a few bright cards featuring the Poppy Song collection! This collection has such pretty items to mix and match for making cheery cards with. I’ll walk through how I created the card with all the poppy stems, and also give some tips on the stenciled background card.

Let’s get started!

Gather the Supplies

The main supplies used for today’s cards are these items from the Poppy Song collection. There is the Favorite Song 3D Embossing Folder, the Playful Stitched Panels, the Leaf and Bloom dies, and the set of 6 Petal Burst layering stencils.

Emboss a Background

To create a background, use the 3D embossing folder, Favorite Song. Just take a card background, add it to your folder, and run it through your die-cutting machine.

The Spellbinder machines do have the instructions for embossing right on the platform for you to refer to, but I’ll also add it here. All you need to do is place the folder with paper inside on the base platform of your cutting machine. Then, add the D Adapter Plate on top, and run it through. This will add just the right amount of pressure to the paper to press that beautiful design into the cardstock.

Cut a Front Panel

Use the Playful Stitched Panels and cut the second largest size from some plain white cardstock. This will give you a layering panel you can add over your embossed background.

Cut and Color the Poppy Flowers

Use the Leaf and Bloom die set to cut out as many flowers as you would like. I cut my flowers out of white cardstock and then colored them by ink blending. I used a variety of reds, a yellow, and a green.

Adhere Flowers to Front Card Panel

Assemble the poppies with just a little liquid glue, and then add them to the front card panel you previously cut out. I used a mix of liquid and foam adhesive to vary the dimensions of the flowers. I also left a vertical space blank for adding some twine later.

Finishing Touches

Add the twine bow to the area left blank on the front of the card. Then, add some jewels or sequins. Lastly, go ahead and add a sentiment (or don’t, the card is pretty enough as is! A sentiment is up to you).

That finishes the card! So easy, and so pretty! I left much of this card clean white, and then let the poppies shine with a pop of color.

BONUS CARD…

But what if you want a more colorful background? Go ahead and make a background with the stencil set!

I used the 6-stencil set with these colors to create a beautiful and bold background. I also cut out the middle and popped it up on foam adhesive.

You can then finish off the card with a sentiment and some jewels or sequins. Super simple!

Go ahead and get creative and craft a whole set of these beautiful poppy cards.

That’s all I have for today. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Until next time,

Marie Nicole
